This 1968 Intermeccanica Italia Spyder is one of approximately 400 examples produced between 1966 and 1973 and is said to have been sold new in the US. It was purchased by a Swiss citizen living in Maryland in June 1988 and exported to his home country in 2003. It was subsequently purchased by a German collector in 2005 and remained under their ownership until it was purchased by the selling dealer in 2023. The car is finished in red over tan leather upholstery, and power comes from a 351ci Ford V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include 14″ Cromodora wheels, a quad-exit exhaust, a tan soft top, power windows, a cassette player, and a wood-rimmed MOMO Indy steering wheel. This Italia Spyder is now offered in Bielefeld, Germany, with German registration. The Italia was based on a Robert Cumberford design that was refined and revised by Franco Scaglione before it debuted as the Griffith 600 at the 1966 New York Motor Show. The hand-formed steel bodywork of this example was delivered from the factory in Fire Engine Red (GR4) and was repainted in the US prior to its export to Europe. Equipment includes chrome split bumpers, a “Prancing Bull” grille badge, fender vents, Talbot-style side-view mirrors, push-button door handles, and quadruple exhaust outlets. The tan soft top features a plastic rear window and is stowed under a color-matched boot. The 14″ Cromodora wheels wear chrome Intermeccanica hubcaps and are mounted with 195/70 Michelin Pilot HX tires. A spare wheel with an older Bridgestone tire is stowed in the trunk. The suspension features an independent front setup with Koni shocks as well as a live rear axle with trailing arms and a Panhard rod, while sway bars are fitted at both ends. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted discs at all four corners. The cockpit features bucket seats trimmed in tan leather along with a color-coordinated lower dash, door panels, center console, and carpets. Equipment includes a black dash pad, a cassette player, a heater, and power windows. The driver’s door armrest is missing, and a brown pull handle and patch were added under previous ownership. The wood-rimmed MOMO Indy steering wheel features an Intermeccanica center cap, and it frames a wood dash panel housing a Jaeger 7k-rpm tachometer and 360-km/h speedometer as well as AutoMeter auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 33k kilometers (~21k miles), approximately 100 of which were added by the selling dealer. Total mileage is unknown. The 351ci Ford V8 features a single Weber carburetor, an Edelbrock air cleaner, and Mickey Thompson finned valve covers. An oil change was last performed and fresh fluids were reportedly added in 2020. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The car does not have a current title, as it is registered in a country that does not issue titles for vehicles. It is being sold on its registration document. The registration lists a first registered date in 1969.
