This 1970 Maserati Ghibli is one of 125 Spyders manufactured during four years of production and was reportedly ordered new via Trident Imported Motors in Rosemont, Pennsylvania, by Charter Company founder Raymond K. Mason in Florida. Chassis 1087 is said to have been collected by Mason in Modena on October 26, 1970, and subsequently driven to Ireland, where it spent two years before being shipped to New York and driven to Florida. The car was then fitted with a Chevrolet V8 and remained in service under original ownership for several years before being placed in storage until the 1990s, when it was purchased by Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance chairman Bill Warner. An ensuing refurbishment included the installation of a replacement Maserati V8 and the addition of a ZF five-speed manual transmission in place of the car’s original automatic gearbox. The car made an appearance in the final scene of the 2011 film Love, Wedding, Marriage before the discovery and installation of a 4.7-liter quad-cam V8 stamped with its chassis number. The car remained under Warner’s stewardship until 2015 and was later purchased by the selling dealer in 2023. Finished in Blu Medio, the car also features four Weber carburetors, dry-sump lubrication, servo-assisted disc brakes, Campagnolo alloy wheels, power steering, a black convertible top, beige leather interior upholstery, air conditioning, power windows, and a push-button radio. This Tipo AM115/S is now offered in North Salem, New York, with a matching two-piece luggage set, factory literature, a tool kit, DVD and Blu-ray copies of Love, Wedding, Marriage, and a clean Florida title. The Ghibli Spyder debuted at the Turin Motor Show in November 1968, two years after the introduction of its coupe counterpart. Giorgetto Giugiaro adapted his own coupe design as one of his final projects with Ghia, carrying over the fixed-roof variant’s front-end styling while giving the Spyder a larger trunk lid, horizontal fuel filler doors, and a flush metal panel concealing its convertible soft top. This example received a repaint under previous ownership in Blu Medio, which is said to be its original color. Features include dual hood vents, round-edge headlight covers, chromed rear bumper overriders, a driver-side mirror, round side indicator lights at the front and rear, and a black convertible top. Campagnolo bolt-on wheels are wrapped in 215/70VR15 Michelin XWX tires with 2022 date codes, and a matching spare is secured in the trunk. Braking is handled by servo-assisted ventilated discs at each corner. The cabin was re-trimmed under previous ownership with tan leather upholstery over the seats, door panels, console, and lower dash. Additional features include color-matched carpeting, brown suede upper dash trim, black carpeting over the rear shelf, headrests, air conditioning, power windows, and a push-button radio. The wood-rimmed steering wheel features a padded horn button and frames a 200-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline, and an oil pressure gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 50k miles, approximately 100 of which have been added under current ownership. The center dash houses a clock and gauges monitoring amperage, coolant temperature, oil temperature, and fuel level overtop rocker-style switchgear. The 4.7-liter Tipo AM115 V8 features an aluminum block and cylinder heads, dual overhead camshafts on each cylinder bank, dry-sump lubrication, four dual-throat Weber carburetors, and four-into-one exhaust headers. Output was factory rated at 310 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 341 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm. Later-style dual Bosch puller cooling fans were installed under previous ownership. Chassis number AM115/S*1087* is shown stamped on the engine block. The ZF five-speed manual transmission was installed under previous ownership in place of the original three-speed automatic. Suspension combines a coil-sprung double-wishbone front setup with a leaf-sprung solid rear axle. The car is titled by number AM115S1087, as shown on the chassis tag above. Other tags on the car omit the letter “S”.
