This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 convertible underwent a refurbishment in 1985 that included the installation of a replacement 402ci V8 and a three-speed automatic transmission, a repaint in yellow, and the reupholstering of the interior in black. The car is equipped with a Positraction limited-slip rear differential, a power-operated black convertible soft top, Flowmaster exhaust, chrome bumpers, a driver-side mirror, electric windshield wipers, power-assisted brakes, power steering, a front and rear coil-spring suspension, 14″ painted steel wheels with hubcaps, an AM/FM radio, and a heater. This Chevelle SS396 was acquired by the selling dealer in 2023 and it is now offered with a Pennsylvania title. The car left the factory finished in Artesian Turquoise and it was refinished in yellow during the aforementioned refurbishment. Equipment includes a power-operated black convertible soft top, a vented hood, quad headlights, front and rear chrome bumpers, SS badging, a driver-side mirror, electric windshield wipers, quarter vent windows, and bright trim. The seller notes crazing and cracking in the paint and close-up photos of the paint are shown in the gallery below. The 14″ painted steel wheels wear hubcaps and are mounted with 225/75 Mastercraft tires. The car is equipped with power steering as well as a front and rear coil-spring suspension, and stopping power is provided by power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes. The cabin was refurbished in 1985 and is trimmed in black vinyl. Interior appointments include front and rear benches, a column shifter, manual-crank windows, a heater, an AM/FM radio, and a lighted glove box. The tilting two-spoke steering wheel fronts a horizontal 120-mph speedometer flanked by combination gauges for fuel level, battery status, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. A tachometer is mounted to the underside of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 18k miles, approximately 50 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The replacement 402ci V8 was sourced from a 1972 Chevrolet and is said to have been installed in 1985. Equipment includes an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, exhaust headers, and Flowmaster mufflers. A photo of the engine stamp pad is shown in the gallery below. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a three-speed Turbo Hydramatic automatic transmission and a Positraction limited-slip rear differential. The transmission is said to have been fitted in 1985.
