This 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster was acquired as a project by the seller on BaT in August 2022 and was subsequently refurbished. Work involved refinishing the car in Opalescent Silver Gray, refreshing the interior in tan leather, and overhauling the 4.2-liter inline-six and four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top, a matching top boot, enclosed headlights, chrome-finished 15″ wire-spoke wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, an aluminum radiator, and a limited-slip differential. This XKE Series I roadster is offered with refurbishment photos, a tool roll, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name. The Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example was dissembled and refinished in Opalescent Silver Gray under current ownership, at which time the bright trim was refinished and a replacement black soft top was installed. Additional equipment includes a black soft-top boot, enclosed headlights, a louvered clamshell hood, wraparound chrome bumpers, a driver-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, and dual exhaust outlets. Chtome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured via two-eared knock-off hubs and are mounted with 205/70 Bridgestone Ecopia tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors, and the suspension and brake systems were overhauled under current ownership. The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in Cinnamon leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Interior appointments include black vinyl dash trim, a sliding rearview mirror, and a heater. The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 26k miles, approximately 20 of which were added under current ownership. The 4.2-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. The engine was overhauled during the refurbishment and fitted with an aluminum radiator as well as an upgraded cooling fan. The cylinder head stamp reads 7E7666-9. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential with 3.07:1 gearing, both of which were rebuilt during the refurbishment. Photos taken during various stages of refurbishment work are viewable in the gallery below. Filed under: e type, e-type
