This 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 convertible is a non-running project that was acquired by the seller in 1985. Refurbishment work started in 2010 with the disassembly of the body and subsequent rust removal, sheet metal repairs on a door, and replacement of the quarter panels before the body was then finished in yellow and the frame was painted black. Equipment includes a rebuilt and partially assembled 396ci V8, a three-speed TH400 automatic transmission, a 12-bolt rear axle, and Super Sport–style 14″ wheels. This Chevelle project is now offered at no reserve with removed parts, a removed Fisher body plate, black California license plates, service manuals, and a clean California title in the seller’s name. The seller states that the body was removed from the frame, rusted areas were addressed, a door was repaired, and the rear quarter panels were replaced before the car was finished in yellow under current ownership. The frame was also painted black at that time. The removed soft top, glass, lights, and trim are included in the sale along with other items that are depicted in the gallery below. The car rolls on Super Sport–style 14″ wheels wrapped in Goodyear Polyglas F70 tires. The steering box and power steering pump are said to have been rebuilt, and disc brakes are fitted up front while drums are in the rear. The front calipers are not installed, and the braking system’s hydraulic plumbing is incomplete. The parking brake is functional. The cabin has been stripped, and rust was removed from the driver’s footwell before the floors and the rear side sections were painted red. An incomplete two-spoke steering wheel is installed on a steering column that was overhauled under current ownership, and an instrument cluster showing 25k miles has reportedly rolled over once is included in the sale. Approximately 20k miles were added under current ownership, according to the seller. Total chassis mileage is unknown. The engine bay is painted black and fitted with a partially assembled 396ci V8 that was refurbished under current ownership and is linked to a three-speed TH400 automatic transmission and a 12-bolt rear axle with an open differential and 3.31:1 gears. The engine code signifies a powerplant produced on February 2 at Tonawanda, with the JK suffix indicating a 325-horsepower L35 396ci V8 for automatic-transmission applications of the Chevelle or El Camino. Block stamping 343797 matches the last six digits of the identification plate on the dashtop/cowl. Service manuals and a collection of parts, many of which have been refurbished, will accompany the vehicle and can be seen in the gallery.
