This 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce was purchased new from Alexander & Mann Motor Company in Greensboro, North Carolina, on August 29, 1960, and it was placed in storage awaiting repairs in the 1970s. The repairs went unfinished and the car is said to have remained in the original owner’s garage until 2005, when it was purchased in a partially disassembled state by Maryland-based Grand Touring Enterprises owner Chuck Wray as a project to work on with his father. A refurbishment subsequently commissioned included a repaint in Rosso Bordeaux, a re-trim of the interior with tan leather upholstery, rebuilding the twin-cam inline-four with a displacement of 1,400ccs, and the installation of a five-speed manual transmission. The car also has twin Weber carburetors, a limited-slip differential, four-wheel finned aluminum drum brakes, independent front suspension, silver-painted 15” Fergat wheels, and a black convertible top. After completion of the project, the car appeared at both the 2012 Amelia Island and Radnor Hunt concours d’elegance before it was sold to its next owner in 2021. This Spider Veloce was purchased by the selling dealer in 2024 and is now offered as part of the Mambo Italiano Collection in Waltham, Massachusetts, with photos and invoices from its refurbishment, an owner’s manual, a tool kit, and a clean Florida title. The Giulietta platform debuted in Sprint coupe form in 1954 and was joined in 1955 by the Berlina sedan, followed in mid-1955 by the Pinin Farina-styled spider. This example’s body was placed on a rotisserie and stripped to bare metal during the refurbishment that was performed between 2005 and 2012. The rocker panels were replaced and repairs were performed to corroded areas in the right footwell as well as the trunk floor under the battery. The car was then repainted in its current shade of Rosso Bordeaux in lieu of its previous blue shade, and a black replacement convertible top was fabricated. The silver-painted Fergat wheels wear bright hubcaps and are wrapped in 155R15 Pirelli Cinturato CA67 tires, as is a matching spare secured on the rear shelf. Stopping is handled by finned aluminum drums at each corner with duplex actuation at the front wheels. The brake system was rebuilt during the refurbishment with replacement wheel cylinders, shoes, hoses, and lines. The cabin was re-trimmed during the refurbishment with tan leather with pleated inserts over bucket seats for two. Additional features include tan carpeting, black rubber floor mats, roll-up windows, lap belts, a rearview mirror mounted atop the black crinkle-finished dashboard, and a lockable glove box. The wood-rimmed steering wheel has drilled spokes and sits ahead of a body-color dashboard fascia that houses Veglia instrumentation including an 8k-rpm tachometer with an inset oil pressure gauge, a 140-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 3k miles, approximately 100 of which have been added by the selling dealer. The DOHC inline-four was disassembled and fitted with a 1,400cc overbore kit during an overhaul performed as part of the refurbishment, at which time the bearings and valvetrain components were replaced. The camshafts are said to have been examined and polished by Megacycle Cams, while the cylinder head was mildly ported and matched with the intake manifold. Additional work during the project included rebuilds of the twin Weber 40 DCO3 carburetors, a re-core of the radiator, refinishing of the exhaust manifold with Jet-Hot coating, and replacing the fuel tank and fuel lines. The oil was changed in 2023. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission that was overhauled before it was installed during the refurbishment. The rear end was also overhauled during the project, at which time it was fitted with a limited-slip differential. Suspension incorporates an independent front setup and a solid rear axle with coilover shock absorbers all around. The exhaust system is said to have been replaced during the refurbishment. The seller notes that the removed four-speed transmission is not included in the sale despite being indicated as such in the summary. The original invoice from Alexander & Mann Motor Company lists a total price of $4,770.08 as well as the trade-in of a 1953 Porsche. The firewall is stamped with the number 1495F07519, which is used as the identification number on the Florida title. The chassis tag affixed to the hood is stamped with number 1495 07519.
