This 1971 BMW 1600 cabriolet was refinished in silver before it was imported from the Netherlands to the US in 2003, and it was subsequently fitted with a modified 2.0-liter M10 inline-four, a five-speed manual gearbox, a limited-slip differential, a Weber carburetor, and aftermarket suspension components. The car also features a black soft top, turbine-style 13″ wheels, replacement black vinyl and patterned cloth upholstery, and a heater. Previously offered on BaT in June 2019, this 1600 cabriolet is offered with service records and transferable New York registration. The car left the factory finished in Polaris Silver (060). It was refinished in silver as part of a 1980s refurbishment that took place in Europe, and additional work at that time is said to have involved replacing various panels and repairing the rear shock towers. A replacement black soft top was fitted in 2019, and additional exterior details include chrome-finished bumpers, round taillights, and a single exhaust outlet. Paint meter readings from multiple body panels are provided in the gallery. E21 turbine-style 13″ alloy wheels are mounted with Kumho 975 Touring AVS tires with production date codes from 2003. Stopping power is provided by front disc brakes in addition to rear drum brakes that were reportedly sourced from an E21 model. The suspension has been modified with ST springs, Bilstein dampers, and urethane anti-roll bar end link bushings, and additional work under previous ownership included replacing the following components: Anti-roll bars Track rod Tie rods Ball joints Rear subframe mounts Differential mount bushings Lower control arms The front bucket seats and the rear bench seat were reupholstered in black vinyl with black and white houndstooth inserts in October 2019. Appointments include a heater, aftermarket front seat belts, and crank windows. The dashboard houses a Becker Europa push-button AM/FM radio, though it is reportedly inoperative. The Petri steering wheel wears a Roundel horn button and sits ahead of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 61k miles. Total mileage is unknown. The replacement 2.0-liter M10 inline-four was installed circa 2003, and it reportedly features an E30 M3-specification starter motor, an E12-specification cylinder head, an Ireland Engineering 284 camshaft, Mahle 9.5:1 pistons, Pauter connecting rods, a Lynx intake manifold with a Weber 45DCOE side-draft carburetor, and aftermarket exhaust headers and as well as a 123ignition Bluetooth-enabled distributor. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement Getrag 245 five-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. Additional underside photos are presented in the gallery below. The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for vehicles of its age. It is being sold on its transferable New York registration document.
