This 1964 Pontiac Tempest began life as a six-cylinder custom station wagon produced in Fremont, California, and it was subsequently sold new at Golden Pontiac, Inc. in Yakima, Washington. The car spent time in Washington, California, Louisiana, and Michigan, where it was recently acquired by the selling dealer. It was refurbished and modified in the style of a GTO by Todd’s GTOs in Sylmar, California, with work said to have included a repaint, interior color change, and replacement of the powertrain. Its YS-code 400ci V8 is equipped with Tri-Power induction and paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and additional modifications include GTO-style badging, a Vintage Air climate-control system, a Hurst shifter, a modern radio, bucket seats, and 14″ wheels. This modified Pontiac is offered in Michigan with PHS documentation, and a clean Michigan title. The car was refinished in its factory-delivered Sunfire Red (NN) with a black vinyl roof (A) during the refurbishment by Todd’s GTOs in Sylmar, California according to the seller, and the roof rack was removed. Cosmetic details include quad headlights, faux hood scoops, GTO badging, and a split tailgate equipped with a manually-operated window. The paintwork and exterior trim are shown further in the photo gallery below. Vintage-style 14″ wheels feature a gray finish accented with polished lips and are fitted with 215/70 BFGoodrich Silvertown redline tires fitted in preparation for the sale. Drum brakes are equipped at all four corners. Outfitted from the factory in Maroon vinyl (212), the interior was re-trimmed with black vinyl upholstery covering the bucket seats, rear bench, and door panels. A climate control system from Vintage Air has been installed, and further additions include a Hurst shifter, a Retrosounds radio, GTO badging, and a woodgrain steering wheel. The turned-metal dashboard panel houses instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer and a collection of warning lights, and Equus gauges for battery status, temperature, and oil pressure are installed under the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 82k miles; true mileage is unknown. The seller notes the speedometer needle is jumpy and the right hand turn signal works intermittently. A YS-code 400ci V8 was installed during the refurbishment and features Tri-Power induction consisting of three two-barrel Rochester carburetors with individual chrome air cleaners. Additional equipment includes chrome valve covers and a dual exhaust system equipped with a pair of DynoMax mufflers. The engine block shows a date code of “E169”, which translates to a May 16th, 1969 casting. The four-speed manual transmission routes power to a ten-bolt rear end. Additional underside photos are provided in the gallery below.
