This 1946 Ford Super Deluxe is a woodie station wagon that was produced at Ford’s Iron Mountain Body Plant in Dearborn, Michigan, and is said to have been refurbished in the mid-1990s and acquired by the seller approximately 21 years ago. The car is powered by a 239ci flathead V8 paired with a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission and is finished in gray with wood paneling. Additional features include brown Naugahyde upholstery, a 12-volt electrical system, a roof rack, upgraded radio with an auxiliary input, brown vinyl roof, and red-painted steel wheels. This Ford Woodie is being offered with a Jacobs surfboard, manufacturer’s literature, documentation from current ownership, and a clean California title in the seller’s name. The car was reportedly repainted its current shade of gray in the mid-1990s and the wood station wagon bodywork is said to have been refurbished by Heiden’s Woodworking of Vista, California at that time. Exterior features include a brown vinyl roof, a roof rack, windshield visor, turn signals, and a red-accented chrome front grille. Various paint chips are present and can be seen up close in the gallery below. The pictured Jacobs surfboard is included in the sale. Red-painted 15” steel wheels wear chrome trim rings and hubcaps and are mounted with Merit and Signet tires measuring 205/70 up front and 235/75 out back. A spare tire carrier is affixed to the rear of the car. Braking is through drums at all four corners. The cabin houses three rows of bench seats trimmed in brown Naugahyde upholstery. A brown rubber mat lines the floors, and the car features an analog clock as well as lap belts for six occupants. The AM radio has been modified with an auxiliary input and is wired to speakers housed under the dash and in a box mounted behind the rear seat. A tear is noted in the driver’s seat back. A two-spoke steering wheel with a spinner knob sits ahead of a 100-mph speedometer and auxiliary displays. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 7k miles, around 5k of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The 239ci flathead V8 is topped with a single carburetor with an oil-bath air cleaner. The electrical system has reportedly been converted to 12-volts. Fluid changes were performed in July 2022. An oil leak is reported from an oil return line, as is corrosion on various fasteners in the engine bay. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. The clutch assembly was replaced in 2005 by Chandler Transmission of Oceanside, California. Additional underbody photos are provided in the gallery below.
