1948 Ford Standard, Deluxe, & Super Deluxe

This 1948 Ford Super Deluxe is one of 8,912 wood-bodied station wagons produced for the model year and was reportedly purchased by a member of the owner’s family in 1969. The car is finished in blue with wood doors and rear body panels along with a black vinyl roof, and power comes from a 239ci flathead V8 paired with a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes three rows of bench seating upholstered in tan vinyl, a covered spare wheel mounted on the tailgate, driving lamps, a wood-slat headliner, an under-dash heater, an AM radio, and a clock. This Super Deluxe wagon is now offered on dealer consignment with an operator’s manual and a clean California title. The car is finished in blue and features wood doors and rear body panels as well as a black vinyl roof. Equipment includes dual taillights, a split tailgate, sliding rear windows, dual side mirrors, chrome bumpers and overriders, dual bumper-mounted driving lamps with yellow lenses, and a chrome grille. Evidence of paintwork on the hood is noted by the selling dealer. Body-color 16″ steel wheels feature white pinstripes and wear chrome hubcaps, trim rings, and BFGoodrich Silvertown bias-ply whitewall tires. A spare wheel with a body-matched cover is mounted to the tailgate. Stopping power is provided by drum brakes at all four corners. The cabin features three rows of bench seats upholstered in tan vinyl. Tan carpets line the floors, and additional features include an AM radio, a clock, an under-dash heater, a slatted wood headliner, and front lap belts. The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring, and it fronts a yellow-woodgrain-pattern-painted steel dash housing a 100-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows under 43k miles, approximately 30k of which were added under current family ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The 239ci flathead V8 features a two-barrel downdraft carburetor and was factory rated at 100 horsepower. A plastic coolant overflow tank is mounted on the right inner fender. Oil leaks are noted by the selling dealer. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. Corrosion on the underside components can be seen in the gallery, and a Columbia overdrive system is fitted but does not work. The California title lists the VIN as 899A2283420, the last eight digits of which can be seen stamped on the frame in the gallery. The car is not fitted with a VIN plate.
