This 1947 Mercury 79M woodie wagon is finished in black with wood paneling over red leather and powered by a 239ci flathead V8 linked to a three-speed manual transmission. The car was acquired by the seller in 2007 and was listed previously on BaT in 2016. Work performed under current ownership has included installation of a Columbia two-speed rear end and replacement of the vinyl roof and front seat upholstery. Additional equipment includes 15” wheels, a heater, and a two-piece tailgate with a rear-mounted spare tire. This Mercury woodie wagon is now offered with an owner’s manual and a clean California title in the name of the seller’s museum. The metal body panels are finished in black, and the wood passenger compartment was refinished during prior ownership. The black vinyl roof covering was replaced under current ownership, and additional features include a split front windshield, a rear-mounted spare tire, sliding rear windows, and chrome bumpers with overriders. Steel 15” wheels wear chrome hubcaps and beauty rings and are mounted with 6.70” Firestone Deluxe Champion wide whitewall tires. Stopping power is provided by hydraulic four-wheel drum brakes. The cabin features three rows of bench seating trimmed in red leather. The front bench was reupholstered during current ownership, and additional appointments include a heater, a faux-wood painted metal dash, wood door panels, front lap belts, and black rubber floor mats. The seller notes that the Philco AM radio is inoperative. Scratches and wear on the interior can be viewed in the gallery. The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and fronts instrumentation consisting of a 110-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. A clock is located on the right side of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 81k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added under current ownership. A split tailgate provides access to the cargo area. The 239ci V8 features a single downdraft carburetor. The battery and voltage regulator are said to have been replaced in 2022 along with the engine oil and fuel filter cartridge. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed manual transmission and a Columbia two-speed rear end. Additional underside photos are provided in the gallery. The car is registered as Planned Non-Operation in the state of California.
