GMC upgraded its medium-duty truck line during the middle 1950s to incorporate General Motors car-like styling, including fenders with tunneled headlamps, a prominent floating grille, and a wraparound windshield. This 1957 GMC 630 Two-Axle Tractor, described as having been restored at least 20 years ago, is one such truck. The seller says the partially customized GMC, known as the Giant, was maintained and restored by her late father, and remains lettered for a Michigan firm, complete with custom pinstriping that looks to be in very good condition. The seller says that the inline-six engine is original to the truck and adds that the GMC is free of rust except for a “small surface spot” on one fender. The seller says the GMC was the subject of a past magazine feature and is believed to have originally been an Army truck.

The 630 series was powered in 1957 by the gasoline-fueled GMC 503-cu.in. OHV inline-six. ceiving its fuel mixture via a single carburetor, the 503 was rated by the manufacturer at 225 horsepower when new, with 430 lb-ft of torque. The engine in this GMC is described by the seller as original to the truck. The seller reports a “good start,” with no observed smoke. The five-speed manual transmission is termed “good.” The seller notes no powertrain leaks. The engine bay presents as stock and acceptably clean, with surface rust visible on some components.

The green and black paint, which appears to be hand-lettered and -pinstriped, looks to be in good overall condition and is estimated to be at least 20 years old. The cab seals are said to be free of cracks and water leaks. The seller states that a small spot of surface rust on the right-side fender is the only corrosion on the truck. The truck has custom diamond-plate deck cover and fifth-wheel covers that the seller says were made by her father, plus a custom rear bumper and lights. The rear wheels are protected by pinstriped fenders. The GMC is equipped with Coast mirrors, and all factory trim appears to be in very good, restored condition. The glass is described as free of cracks and scratches. All lights are said to be in proper working order. sed on the photos, the underside presents as clean, with light surface corrosion visible.

The black vinyl bench seat shows some lumpiness but no tears or other outward damage. The cab floor appears to be solid and is covered by rubber mats. The headliner looks to be in good shape, with a dome lamp that may be inoperative. The seller says no factory interior trim or small controls are missing, and she cites no issues with instrument functionality. An AM radio, possibly original, is present. There is no air conditioning, but the heater is reported to work.

The date of the GMC’s most recent chassis service is unknown. The seller notes normal play from the steering. The shock absorbers, bushings and other suspension parts are termed “good,” with no leaks or cracks, and no functional issues cited. No issues with the air-actuated drum brakes are noted. The seller also states no issues with the 10-hole aluminum wheels. The BF tires show 2014 DOT date codes.

The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Michigan title in her name. An appraisal form will provided. Described as having been fully restored at least 20 years ago, this 1957 GMC 630 Two-Axle Tractor presents as a carefully redone example with moderate customization.
