This 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon GL is a 4-wheel drive Syncro model with a Westfalia pop top and full camper setup. The drivetrain includes a 2.1-liter flat-four sending power to all four wheels via a 4-speed manual transaxle with a factory granny gear and locking rear differential. The van reportedly remained with its original owner until it was acquired by the selling dealer two months ago, after which a PPI was conducted at Peace Vans of Seattle. Subsequent work included a fuel system overhaul, transmission fluid and differential oil replacement, changes of the coolant and thermostat, fresh spark plugs and wires, and more. This Vanagon is offered with records since new, factory literature, two sets of keys, a window sticker, a clean Carfax report, and a clear Washington State title. The Flash Silver Metallic finish is shown up close in a number of gallery photos below, which also illustrate depth meter readings taken from throughout the body. Factory 14″ wheels wear Toyo Eclipse tires replaced less than 1,000 miles ago in April of 2017. The fiberglass pop top is equipped with a grey tent and shown in both raised and lowered positions. A rear window washer was equipped as a factory option. The forward cabin is trimmed in grey velour seat upholstery and vinyl door panels with a black dashboard. The functional 6-digit odometer shows 90k miles, though the selling dealer notes that it has been replaced several times according to included documentation. Actual mileage is said to be approximately 133k. A period cassette deck is present but not working. The full Westfalia camper setup includes upper and lower folding beds and a kitchenette with dual propane burners, tables, and cabinetry. The refrigerator is set up to run on liquid propane or electricity but does not provide cool air. The water-cooled 2.1L flat-four was serviced by Peace Vans in November 2018 with a fuel system overhaul including new hoses and rebuilt injectors, fresh transmission and differential fluid, a coolant leak repair, a cooling system flush and thermostat replacement, new spark plugs and wires, and an oil/filter change. Compression and leakdown tests reportedly showed 140-150 psi and 5-7% across all cylinders respectively. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 4-speed manual transaxle with a fifth low-ratio “Gelande” granny gear and locking rear differential. The seller reports that the van is in need of new rear brakes and upper ball joints. Additional underside photos are available in the gallery below. The window sticker shows an MSRP of just over $24k and lists original delivery at Dan Wilder Volkswagen of Port Angeles, Washington. The van was reportedly dealer-traded to Skacel Volkswagen in Auburn, Washington, where it was purchased by its first owner. Service records from new, factory literature, and two sets of keys are included in the sale. The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists Washington State registration since 1993.
