This 1962 Maserati 3500 GT is said to have been fitted with custom alloy bodywork by Italian coachbuilder Autotecnica del Lario in the 1970s and spent time in a private collection prior to being acquired by the selling dealer in 2018. Finished in red, the car is powered by a 3.5-liter DOHC inline-six that breathes through triple Weber carburetors and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Additional features include front disc brakes, 16” wire wheels, dual exhaust, a black soft top, and black and brown interior upholstery. Service in 2022 included a rebuild of the cylinder head, while work between 2015 and 2016 included the replacement of powertrain mounts and a brake system refresh. This re-bodied 3500 GT is now offered in Sint-Truiden, Belgium, with invoices from 2015 to 2022 and Italian registration. The 3500 GT was introduced in 1957 as a Touring-bodied coupe, which was later joined among factory offerings by a Vignale-built convertible. This example’s steel frame features the latter’s 2,500mm wheelbase and wears an alloy open-roof body that is said to have been custom-made in the 1970s by ATL in Mandello del Lario near Lake Como. The older red paintwork is noted to exhibit various imperfections. Styling features include a hood scoop, faired-in headlights, split front and rear bumpers, grille-mounted turn signals, double round taillights, and a black soft top. Wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are wrapped in Dunlop Racing tires measuring 5.00-16 up front and 6.00-16 at the rear. The cabin houses a pair of bucket seats trimmed in black, while brown upholstery covers the door panels, center tunnel, and shifter and handbrake boots. Additional features include black carpeting, aluminum thresholds and door caps, roll-up windows, and a black dash. The riveted-wood-rimmed steering wheel features drilled spokes and frames a Jaeger 300-km/h speedometer and a 10k-rpm tachometer. A trio of Jaeger instruments to the driver’s right monitor oil pressure, fuel level, and coolant temperature. An odometer is not present, and total mileage is unknown. The 3,485cc Tipo 101 inline-six features an aluminum block and cylinder head, the latter of which was rebuilt in 2022 by Garage Serge Power Engineergin in Hasselt, Belgium. Work included milling of the combustion chambers, welding repairs to cracks, replacement of the valve seats, adjustment of the valves, an oil change, and replacement of the battery. Induction is through triple Weber carburetors, while ignition is handled by two spark plugs per cylinder. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission, and replacement powertrain mounts were fabricated in 2016. The independent front suspension was refreshed at that time, as were the front brake calipers and brake master cylinder.
