1963 Studebaker Avanti White R2

1963 Studebaker Avanti R2  Paxton-Supercharged w 4-Speed Manual Transmission

This is a 1963 R-2, Paxton-supercharged Avanti, with a 4-speed manual transmission (SN 63 R 1127) The speedometer and tachometer have recently been replaced, but the original odometer reading was 63,000 miles to which I’ve added a few hundred more miles.

The hog troughs are solid, the product of many years in Arizona and storage for 25 years at the Goldenrod Garage.

I understand the original owner raced the Avanti at drag strips around Tucson, Arizona, (I have photographs) and at some point, replaced the engine.  The new block does not have a serial number, and the Avanti Owners Association International advises that is consistent with a replacement motor.  The casting number on the head indicates it is a R2 289 ci motor.

This RARE SUPERCHARGED Avanti R2—was the fastest production car of its time! Powered by a Paxton-supercharged 289 cu in engine pushing 4.5 psi.

New radiator, front & rear springs, vinal dashboard, speedometer and tachometer, Koni shocks, stainless steel exhaust system, new power steering pump and hoses, re-chromed rear bumper, valve covers and air cleaner, new carpeting, PerTronix ignition, traction bars, running lights, “Classic” AM/FM radio.  Car has Turner Brake conversion kit and dual circuit master cylinder, new rear brake cylinders, fuel tank replaced, new fuel pump, new 205/70 Uniroyal Tiger Pay tires.

The paint is fair, there are a few separated seams in the upholstery and the transmission periodically jumps out of 3rd gear. Aside from that, this is a good reliable driver easily spinning its tires off the line.
