This 1950 Oldsmobile Futuramic is a “tin woodie” station wagon that underwent a three-year body-off refurbishment under current ownership, which commenced in 2014. Finished in red with painted woodgrain-style accents over tan vinyl upholstery, the car is powered by a 303ci V8 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Other equipment includes a dual exhaust system, hubcaps, whitewall tires, fender skirts, wood interior trim, and a compass. The car received awards from the Antique Automobile Club of America in 2019 and 2022. This Oldsmobile wagon is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, refurbishment photos and records, and a California title in the seller’s name. The Fisher-bodied wagon was soda blasted and refinished in red during the aforementioned refurbishment, and two shades of simulated wood paint accent the body sides, window surrounds, and tailgate. The chrome components and the glass were replaced, and the stainless trim was polished. Equipment includes a two-piece windshield, chrome bumpers and side trim, 88 badging, fender skirts, and a driver-side mirror. Dual taillamps are affixed to the split tailgate with hinged mounts. An AACA badge is affixed to the front bumper. Body-color 15″ steel wheels wearing bright hubcaps and trim rings are mounted with American Classic whitewall tires. Braking is provided by drums at all four corners. The brakes and some suspension parts were replaced during the refurbishment. The cabin houses front and rear bench seats that have been reupholstered in tan vinyl. Mahogany veneer trim adorns the door panels, side panels, headliner, and tailgate. The rear seat can fold flat, and the interior also contains replacement carpeting, an in-dash compass, a radio-delete plate, a dome light, and floor mats. Featuring a “ringed globe” logo and a chrome horn ring, the steering wheel frames a sweeping 110-mph speedometer and perimeter auxiliary gauges that were replaced during the refurbishment. The five-digit odometer shows 15 miles, which is said to reflect the distance accumulated since completion of the refurbishment. Total mileage is unknown. The 303.7ci Rocket V8 is fitted with a black air-intake system and a single carburetor. An engine rebuild conducted during the refurbishment involved performing a valve job, reconditioning the connecting rods, and grinding and polishing the crankshaft as well as replacing the camshaft bearings, gaskets, main bearings, rod bearings, pistons, piston rings, intake valves and guides, and exhaust valves and guides. The wiring harness also was replaced, and a dual exhaust system was installed. The oil was changed most recently in 2022.
