The 1950 4dr Suburban “Woodie” was in it’s 3rd and final year of production. The bodies were coachbuilt at US y & Forging Co, and only 2,057 were built in 1950. ique features to this year include the fully enclosed rear tire in the steel tailgate. This example here has been in my collection for 9yrs now, and has always been stored in a climate-controlled environment to preserve the factory wood paneling. That’s right! This car, as far as I can tell, retains all of the factory wood, no rot or weathering evident!
This car was built early in the 1950 production year at ‘s flagship plant. Built on the full size 118.50″ wheelbase, it was then sent to US y & Forging Co for the woodwork. And that wood survives to this day in stunning condition! I’ve been over every inch of the exterior of this car and the craftsmanship is 2nd to none. They were at the top eschelon of woodworkers for the automotive industry for years and it is clearly evident in their results!
This car in particular was refurbished by a collector on the st Coast 20-25 years ago, and it benefited from fresh paint & new interior at that time, and also the wood was refinished. The car has a solid body, runs and drives, and looks like a time-machine on the road!
I purchased this car at an auction and it was love at first sight. Now sadly I have to make room in the collection so this one unfortunately has to go. I will say, this is honestly one of the most popular cars of my friends and fellow collectors who have visited my place! It’s a show stopper and I am certain you’ll be the only guy at the event with a Woodie gon!
nt is a single stage dark undy-Maroon that looks awesome in contrast with the wood sides. It’s not a concours quality finish, but it looks amazing and could potentially look even better with paint correction and further polishing. Small scratches and chips here and there, this is a driver after all, but a really beautiful car that would be at home at any car show!
drivetrain starts right up, no smoke, shifts nicely, and drives around town with no worries. I’ve probably only put on 150 miles in the past 9 years. I just don’t get to drive this one enough, so I sadly have to let it go. The rear leafs even still have their factory wrappings on them. This was I believe to cut down on squeaking and dirt buildup.
Interior was all redone before I got it, and it’s all period-correct Maroon nyl, with new Beige Carpeting to compliment. The seats are very comfortable and all the doors shut like bank vaults, no sagging or warping of the wood. I’m not kidding, this wood body is so straight and solid that the doors close better than most modern luxury cars.
This Woodie has the unique 3 row seating, so passenger capacity is a comfortable 6-7 people! Great for road trips or cruising at the show! All the seats can be removed if needed for hauling cargo, but the rooftop luggage rack provides ample storage on top so there’s room for the whole family inside!
Car is located in bbock, TX and for sale by owner.
I’m downsizing the size of my classic car collection so this vehicle and a few others will be listed on mings. Check out my other listings and call or message me if you have any questions.
