1957 Ford Fairlane

This 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner convertible was acquired by the current owner in 1992 and underwent a refurbishment completed in 1995 that included refinishing the car in red and white over matching upholstery along with rebuilding the 292ci V8 and two-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a power-retractable “Hide-Away” hardtop, 14″ steel wheels with full covers, power-assisted drum brakes, power steering, a Continental kit, tail fins, hooded headlights, and spotlight side mirrors as well as air conditioning, an AM radio, and a tissue holder. This Ford Skyliner is now offered on dealer consignment with an owner’s manual, shop manuals, calendars featuring the car, various awards, and a Pennsylvania title. The car left the factory finished in Starmist Blue (F) and was refinished in red and white as part of a refurbishment completed under current ownership in 1995. The power-retractable “Hide-Away Hardtop” was introduced in 1957 and was available for three model years. Additional equipment includes a Continental kit, spotlight side mirrors, tail fins, hooded headlights, a wraparound windshield, rear fender skirts, and a dual exhaust system with wing-tip exits. Additional work completed as part of the 1995 refurbishment included repairing the power top mechanism, re-plating the chrome trim, installing electric windshield wipers, and repairing the windshield washer sprayer. The 14″ steel wheels wear bright turbine-style covers and are mounted with 215/75 American Classic whitewall tires. Work completed as part of the 1995 refurbishment reportedly included installing power steering and overhauling the brakes with a power-boost system as well as replacement liners and wheel cylinders. The cabin features front and rear bench seats reupholstered in red cloth and white vinyl. Interior equipment includes air conditioning, a heater, vent windows, an analog clock, a tissue holder, padded sun visors, and a push-button AM radio. The three-spoke steering wheel features a bright horn ring and fronts a 120-mph speedometer flanked by gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 67k miles, approximately 7k of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The C-code 292ci V8 is equipped with a single carburetor and Thunderbird-script valve covers. Both the engine and the carburetor were reportedly rebuilt as part of the 1995 refurbishment. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement two-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission and a 3.89:1 standard differential. The transmission was rebuilt in 1995.
