1957 derbird with modifications $28,500
This car was restored about 15 years ago by a previous owner. It has been repainted from its original Black to red with a white top. The paint is intact, glossy and shows no sign of fading. There is a little “orange peel” in some areas (see images) and blemishes in the finish and some pitting of the windshield/A-pillar trim. There is no visible body damage. The rocker panels are straight and smooth, but are non-magnetic toward the rear of each rocker panel, indicating the presence of non ferrous filler (there are no cracks or bubbles). Exterior chrome is bright. No chips or scratches on the glass. I believe the the interior was redone in red and white at the same time the car was painted and shows no signs of fading and no tears. ng my ownership the following work has been done. build engine, rebuild carburetors, rebuild brake master cylinder, rebuild brake slave cylinders, replace brake lines, new brake shoes, new clutch and pressure plate, replace radiator hoses, replace belts, replace headliner.
In addition to its bright clean appearance, the car has several interesting 60’s type performance mods – high compression pistons, .070” overbore, twin four-barrel (Carter AFB) carbs, 4-speed transmission with narrow gate shifter. The modifications were done prior to the purchase of the car by the man I bought it from. (A tag on the engine block indicates that the motor was rebuilt by e Motor Company in .) I’m not aware that the engine was ever dynoed, but it seems reasonable with this set of modifications, the car would be as fast or faster than the factory E-code .
In addition to the blemishes and orange peel mentioned above, the transmission slips out of 2nd and 3rd gear when coasting downhill. The bias ply tires are 15 years old. The clock, the radio and the heater fan motor don’t work. The car is not titled. The odometer reads 13,850. The actual total mileage is unkonwn. The car will be sold on a Bill of .
