Oregon Motor Company, which has sold numerous classic and collector cars on Hemmings, is representing this 1959 Morgan Plus 4 Convertible on consignment. The car was restored, and the miles shown are since that restoration with the odometer restarted at zero. The seller says the classic British roadster “Starts, runs, and drives like a much more recent car.” He reports that the Morgan is titled using its engine number. The consignor acquired the Morgan in 2020 from the family of the original owner, Russell Austin, Jr. of Aberdeen, Washington. Austin apparently participated in a couple SCCA races in its early years. A plaque under the hood indicates that he placed third in class in the D Production SCCA race at Shelton, Washington, in April 1960. Other documentation suggests he entered the Seafair Sport Car Races in July 1961. The restoration work still presents well, with a few cosmetic flaws listed in “NEEDS” below.
Morgan introduced the Plus 4 in 1950, and a restyle a few years later updated the design to the curved grille and faired-in headlights that Morgans still use today. Like Morgans before and after, the original Plus 4 used a steel chassis and ash-framed steel body parts. This 1959 model used the engine from the Triumph TR3A. The Morgan was smaller and lighter than the Triumph and so offered quicker performance.
The selling dealer states that it will provide a clean Washington title in the consignor’s name. This 1959 Morgan Plus 4 Convertible was previously acquired in 2020 from one-family prior ownership. It had been restored in the past, and it still shows very nicely. The Moggie is presented in tip-top mechanical condition, and the reported cosmetic blemishes appear to be minor.
