This 1960 Mercedes-Benz 220SE is one of 1,112 cabriolets produced with Bosch mechanical fuel injection between 1958 and 1960, and it was acquired by the seller’s father circa 1990. Finished in red over beige leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 2.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a beige soft top, fog lights, 13″ steel wheels, chrome bumpers with overriders, driving lights, a driver-side mirror, wood interior trim, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. Acquired by the seller in 2007, this Ponton is now offered with partial service records and a clean California title in the seller’s name. The 220SE model was introduced in late 1958 as the final evolution of the Ponton platform’s six-cylinder variants. This final-year example is finished in red and equipped with a beige convertible soft top and top cover. Additional exterior features include fog lights, fender-mounted turn signals, a driver-side mirror, a fender-mounted antenna, flared quarter panels, a key-locked fuel filler door, chrome trim, and wrap-around bumpers with overriders. The seller notes a tear on both sides of the convertible top. Steel 13″ wheels feature slotted chrome covers with body-color centers and are mounted with 185/80 Maxxis MA-1 tires. The car was factory equipped with a double-wishbone front and single-joint rear axle suspension with coil springs. Stopping power is provided by vacuum-boosted hydraulic drums. The seller notes that the wheel bearings were replaced in 2016, the tie rods, drag links, and brake hoses were replaced in 2017, and the brake booster was replaced in 2021. The cabin houses bucket seats upholstered in beige leather along with a color-coordinated lower dashboard, door panels, and carpets, while wood trim accents the upper dashboard, windshield frame, and doors. Interior appointments include front vent windows, door map pockets, a clock, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. A battery disconnect switch was fitted in the glovebox. Wear is noted on the seats, and the floor mats are stained. The radio and window channels were reportedly repaired in 2017. The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames VDO instrumentation consisting of a horizontal-sweep 110-mph speedometer alongside a trip odometer and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 41k miles. The horn pad was replaced in 2017. The 2.2-liter M127 inline-six was factory equipped with Bosch mechanical fuel injection and rated at 115 horsepower and 137 lb-ft of torque. Service since 2016 is said to have included replacing the water pump housing and gasket, muffler, spark plugs, ignition points and condenser, air and fuel filters, and mounts for the motor and transmission as well as repairing the radiator and steering shaft. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a column-shifted four-speed manual transmission. Filed under: fintail, ponton, w111, w128
