1961 Landrover 88 Greensand 88″ SWB Utility

On offer is a late Land Rover Series 2, 88 utility LHD export model sold into Canada. It was restored from the ‘ground up’ from 2018 to 2023.  Upon completion it was sold into Montana where it was titled and currently resides. 

This Rover retains its original chassis and bulkhead, though they are now galvanized for rust protection. The chassis was left with its Zinc coating as were many of the steel brackets. The bulkhead, along with the front grill panel were painted body colour over the galvanized finish. 

The restoration was unique in the number of NOS parts used, that came from a 30 year collection of Rover parts, and have long been not available. These parts include, but aren’t limited to:

Lights, brake components, engine pistons, bearings, timing chain and seals, axle and hub components, interior gauges and switches, electrical cables, all rubber weather seals, front fenders and grill panel, throttle pedal and linkage, vent screens, fuel system parts, complete exhaust, 16 inch wheels, rear and side steps, mud flaps, manufacturer’s plates, shovel and mounting kit, Smiths safety gauge, warning lights and hundreds of smaller parts. 

The vehicle is finished in a 1970’s Jaguar colour of Greensand. The canvas top and door pockets are Olive canvas.

The vehicle has a later (c.1970) 8:1 compression 2.25 engine, which replaced the Series 2, 7:1 compression engine in the interest of performance and parts availability. The original engine has been cleaned up and painted and accompanies the car, though it is inoperative. The gearbox is a later S2A 4speed gearbox from the mid 1960’s though the original gearbox case comes with the vehicle.

Mileage is TMU from new, and about 250 miles since restoration.
