This 1962 Jaguar XKE Series I Roadster is said to have been purchased by the current owner’s father in California in 1977, and a subsequent refurbishment included a repaint in red, replacement of the black soft top, and an interior re-trim in black leather. The car is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and additional equipment includes 15″ knockoff wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, covered headlights, chrome bumpers, a push-button radio, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. This Series I XKE is now offered on dealer consignment with a clean California title. The car was reportedly refinished in its current shade of red in the 1980s. Exterior features include a replacement black soft top, a louvered clamshell hood, covered headlights, dual center-exit exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The seller notes oxidation on the bright trim and pitting in the chrome. Close-up photos of chips and blemishes in the paint can be viewed in the gallery below. Chrome-finished 15″ knockoff wire wheels are secured with two-eared spinners and mounted with older 205/75 Michelin tires. A spare wheel and tire are stored beneath the trunk floor. Braking is handled by servo-assisted four wheel discs with inboard-mounted units at the rear. The seller states that the brakes will need service before extended driving. The cabin was reportedly reupholstered under previous ownership and features bucket seats trimmed in black leather with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Bright trim accents the dashboard and center console, and additional equipment includes a cigar lighter and push-button AM radio. Wear on the interior surfaces can be viewed in the gallery. The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including 260-km/h speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are mounted in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 30k kilometers (~19k miles), approximately 3k kilometers (~ 2k miles) of which were added under current ownership, and true mileage is unknown. The 3.8-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and polished aluminum valve covers. The seller states that tuning will be necessary before extensive driving, and recommends replacing the belts and hoses. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Additional underside images are available in the gallery. Filed under: e type, e-type
