This 1964 Mercedes-Benz 300SE cabriolet is powered by an all-aluminum 3.0L inline-six and equipped with a four-speed manual transmission, a black soft top, four-wheel disc brakes, air suspension, and a Retrosound radio. The cabin was reupholstered in saddle leather in the late 1990s and the bodywork was repainted in white in the early 2000s. The selling dealer purchased the car in 2020 and subsequent service included resealing the engine, installing an electronic ignition system, rebuilding the air suspension, overhauling the front brakes, and replacing the windshield. This 300SE cabriolet is now offered in Wiesbaden, Germany with service records and German registration documents. Mercedes produced 708 300SE convertibles between 1962 and 1967 and as top-of-the-range models, they were treated to additional chrome trim down the beltline and on the wheel arches. Originally Dark Bordeaux Red, this example was refinished in white during the early 2000s. It is equipped with a black replacement soft top, and the windshield was replaced in 2021. The 14″ steel wheels wear chrome trim rings and body-color hubcaps as well as Vredestein Sprint Classic whitewalls. 300SE convertibles were factory equipped with power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes and air suspension front and rear. The selling dealer notes that the front brakes and axles were overhauled and the shocks replaced in 2020 and that the air suspension, including the regulators and air pump, was refurbished in 2023. The cabin is upholstered in saddle leather and was refreshed in the late 1990s. A Retrosound radio is installed and noted flaws include cracks in the door pockets and tears and stains in the top headliner. Instrumentation includes a 7k-rpm tachometer, a 220-km/h speedometer, and vertically oriented gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 99k kilometers (~62k Miles), approximately 8k of which were added under current ownership. The 3.0-liter M189 straight-six used in the 300SE is equipped with an alloy block and Bosch mechanical fuel injection. The radiator was replaced in 2018, and service in 2023 included resealing the engine and installing a 123ignition electronic distributor. The four-speed manual gearbox was rebuilt in 2020 and the clutch assembly was also replaced. The underside was refinished and coated in 2018 and the selling dealer states the rear axle was refurbished at that same time. Filed under: fintail, w112
