This 1964 Porsche 356C cabriolet was delivered new in Oakland, California, and is said to have spent time in Texas before being acquired by the current owner’s husband in 1978. Wearing an older repaint in its original shade of Signal Red, the car is powered by a replacement 1.6-liter flat-four mated to a four-speed manual transaxle. Additional features include four-wheel disc brakes, Koni shock absorbers, chrome-finished 15” wheels, a rear luggage rack, a black convertible top, black leather upholstery, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a Blaupunkt AM radio. This 356C is offered at no reserve on dealer consignment with a copy of its Kardex, invoices dating back to 1987, an owner’s manual, a tool kit, and a clean California title. Finished from the factory in Signalrot (6407), the Reutter-built body received repairs to the front fenders, hood, and left door prior to a repaint in 1995. Additional work in 2011 included replacing the windshield, bumper guards, horn grilles, exterior lighting assemblies, hood handle, front hood seal, exhaust tips, and various emblems. A number of chips are noted on the leading surfaces and door edges, while other imperfections include scuffs in the finish and pitting on the door handles. Later-model 15″ chrome-finished wheels were fitted in 1987 and wear Porsche-crest hubcaps, while 165/80 Classic Radial LL800 tires were mounted at three corners between 2016 and 2017. A 185/70 Pirelli P6000 tire is mounted on the right-rear wheel, while a painted spare wearing non-matching rubber is housed in the front trunk. A refresh of the brake system between 2010 and 2011 included rebuilding the calipers and replacing the master cylinder, hoses, and pads. The cabin houses a pair of bucket seats that were reupholstered in black leather in 2003, while color-matched trim covers the door panels, fold-down rear seats, and dash. Additional features include charcoal square-weave carpeting, rubber floor mats, front lap belts, and a Blaupunkt push-button AM radio. The wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of a body-color dash housing green-letter VDO instrumentation that was refurbished in 2011 and includes a 6k-rpm tachometer, a 200-km/h speedometer, a clock, and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 4,500 kilometers (~3k miles), and total mileage is unknown. The replacement 1.6-liter Type 616/15 flat-four features twin Zenith carburetors topped with Knecht air filter housings. Service in 2019 included changing the oil, rebuilding the starter, and replacing the distributor cap, rotor, points, spark plugs, fuel filter, and air filter elements. The six-volt battery was replaced in 2018. Engine number 713906 is stamped on the case, corresponding with a 1964 356C. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Type 741 four-speed manual transaxle that received a fluid change in November 2023. Areas of corrosion are visible on the underside as well as inside the front storage compartment. The Kardex lists the original colors and component numbers as well as delivery to Oakland, California. Number 77043 is shown stamped on the transaxle in the photo gallery below and matches the number listed on the Kardex. An owner’s manual, a tool kit, a jack, and various accessories are included in the sale.
