This 1965 Mercedes-Benz 230SL was originally sold by Mark Motors Limited of Winnipeg, Canada, and was acquired by the seller in 2004 from the estate of the original owner. The car is finished in Papyrus White over Turquoise leather upholstery, and power is provided by a 2.3-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black Pagoda hardtop, a black soft top, chrome bumpers, and 14″ steel wheels with black covers in addition to lap seatbelts and a Blaupunkt radio. This 230SL is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, a hardtop storage crate, a radio blanking plate, two sets of keys, records dating to 1980, and Manitoba registration. The W113 SL features an aluminum hood, trunk lid, and doors. This example was finished from the factory in Papyrus White (717) with a black (040) removable Pagoda hardtop. A silver stone guard coating was applied to the rocker panels and behind the rear wheels under previous ownership, and factory equipment includes a black soft top with chrome bow trim as well as a chrome driver-side mirror, and chrome bumpers. The convertible top window is cloudy, there is a repaired stone chip in the windshield, and areas of paint touch-up are shown in the image gallery below. The steel 14″ wheels have been blasted and refinished and wear contrasting hubcaps. Tires are older 185-series Michelin MX4 All Seasons, and a spare is stowed in the trunk. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. Service in 2020 reportedly involved replacing the brake master cylinder and brake lines. The seating surfaces are upholstered in Turquoise (217) leather and complemented by a color-coordinated dash pad and carpets. Appointments include a heater, a floor-mounted gear selector, a Blaupunkt radio, wood trim, and lap belts that were added following the seller’s acquisition. A radio blanking plate is included in the sale. The seller notes that the clock was rebuilt, the seat covers were restitched, and the heater control cable was repaired under current ownership. Browning from glue residue is visible on the hardtop headliner. The two-spoke steering sits ahead of VDO instrumentation which includes a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and vertically oriented auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 77k miles, approximately 12k of which were added under current ownership. The 2.3-liter M127 inline-six features Bosch mechanical fuel injection. The seller states that service in 2021 included rebuilding the fuel and injection pumps and replacing the fuel tank, fuel lines, and cold start valve solenoid. Sound-deadening material was added to the underside of the hood under previous ownership. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The transmission was rebuilt in 2022, at which time the first gear set and output shaft, pilot, and throw-out bearings were replaced. Further work before reinstalling the transmission in 2023 involved replacing the clutch disc and clutch cylinders. A copy of the data card lists factory colors, equipment, and powertrain component numbers. A photo of the engine number tag is included in the gallery below. The vehicle does not have a title, as it is registered in a country that does not issue titles for vehicles. It is being sold on its Manitoba registration. Filed under: pagoda, sl, w113
