1966 Fairlane 500 GT Convertible S-Code 4-Speed

I acquired this original 1 from the brother representing his bother’s estate who owned the GT for 35yrs residing in na. Car has a great Midwest history, was always garaged under his ownership, well cared for, and lots of wonderful family memories were built with this . It’s also my understanding his brother bought the car from the original owner in in 1988 evidenced on the actual owner’s manual. Since my ownership I had my mechanic, who specializes working on vintage cars, go through it bumper to bumper to restore it back to her original beauty. She looks and runs great! I am relocating soon and will not have the extra space so I’m ready to pass her along to someone who loves classic cars as much as I do. Put the top down, crank up the radio, and travel back to 1966!
Some of the work I’ve done since my ownership consisted of installing a y 650-cfm carburetor and BF redline tires, repairing the emergency brake, and replacing the ignition coil, master cylinder, wheel cylinder, tailshaft seal, temperature sending unit, vacuum and fuel lines, and various gaskets.
Power is provided by a 390ci S-code V8 has been fitted with an lbrock intake manifold, a y four-barrel carburetor, a Cams camshaft, and ker exhaust headers. The vacuum and fuel lines were replaced and an engine tune-up was performed in 2023. The fuel pump, intake gasket, and valve cover gaskets were replaced in 2024 at which time the coolant was flushed and the oil was changed.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The tailshaft seal was replaced in 2023 and a custom dual exhaust system with glasspack mufflers has been fitted. A build sheet, manufacturer’s literature, and all the original parts (The intake, carb, exhaust manifolds, cam, ect.) along with past and current service records accompany the vehicle.
The car left the factory finished in n Blue and was repainted under prior ownership. There is evidence of rust repair on the left door and lower portions of the rear quarter panels. ils include a blue convertible soft top, black side graphics, stacked headlights, and chrome trim on the grille, bumpers, wheel arches, and window surrounds.
Black 14″ steel wheels wear polished covers and are mounted with BF Silvertown Radial redline tires which were installed in 2023. The car is equipped with rear air shocks and braking is handled by unassisted drums at each corner. The emergency brake was repaired and the master cylinder and a wheel cylinder were replaced in 2023.
The front bucket seats and rear bench were retrimmed in tan vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes a center console, faux woodgrain trim, a shifter, Fairlane GT badging, a heater, and a push-button radio.
The original wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a horizontal-sweep 120-mph speedometer and a fuel level gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 13,751 miles (believed to be Fairlane GT (S-Code – 390 / 335hp) backed by a Top- der 4 Speed! sed on date codes provided and block casting numbers this GT has its original engine.
ke manifold date 6D4 – April 4, 1966. And it’s a C6A with the large cast -S.
Block – casting C6ME-A with date – 6E27 – May 27, 1966. Fairlane’s build date June 13. So, “numbers correct”. VIN were stamped only on 289HP and 427’s in ‘66. The car is a solid GT that took minimal restoration. The rocker panels look great! No power steering. No power brakes. No problem. These GT Fairlanes have large drums. They stop fine. They steer and handle easily. The 390 in this Fairlane has been rebuilt adding a mild cam. And it has headers! A major improvement over the restrictive factory exhaust manifolds. And a shifter! rmous improvement over the stock 4 speed shifters!
