There was never a production version of the 1968 Ford Mustang Convertible in California Special trim, but this 1968 Ford Mustang Convertible GT/CS Tribute has had a restomod makeover with all the correct-appearing elements. That includes the stripes, side scoops, rear spoiler, and even the Shelby taillights from a 1965 Thunderbird. This car also wears a Shelby-style fiberglass hood and incorporates a number of additional upgrades such as a coilover front suspension with rack-and-pinion steering, Dakota Digital gauges, and a retro-style radio with modern features. “The restoration was completed in 2018,” notes the seller.

  • The seller asserts the C-code 289-cu.in. OHV V8 under the hood is original.
  • It has been upgraded with an aluminum intake manifold and a four-barrel carburetor.
  • There’s also a custom dual-exhaust system.
  • The engine is paired with a three-speed automatic transmission.
  • In 2018 the car was repainted a light blue that appears like the original Ford Acapulco Blue.
  • The finish appears in very good condition, with the seller reporting “a couple small scratches.”
  • In addition to the GT/CS exterior trim, the car has a custom grille and a Shelby-style hood.
  • The white convertible top appears in very good shape, with no reported operational issues.
  • All the exterior chrome elements also appear in very good condition.
  • Similarly, the interior appears restored and features several upgrades.
  • They include a wood-rimmed steering wheel, Dakota Digital gauges, and a radio upgrade.
  • Cracks are visible in the steering wheel’s rim.
  • There’s some visible wear in the carpet along with a few minor paint chips in the kick panel trim.
  • The door panels and dash pad appear in very good condition.
  • There’s only minor apparent wear in the seat covers.
  • Suspension upgrades include a conversion to Heidt’s Mustang II-style front suspension.
  • That includes coilover shocks, which enabled the removal of the original shock towers.
  • The car also has rack-and-pinion steering and front disc brakes.
  • Wheels and tires include 17-inch chrome rims from US Mags paired with Champiro UHP radial tires.
  • Nothing additional is included.
  • The windshield wipers and horn do not work.
  • This 1968 Mustang Convertible is a GT/CS “Tribute,” with correct-appearing trim.
  • The car was restored in 2018 and the odometer shows about 1, Ford Mustang Convertible GT California Special Tribute offers a glimpse of what a production model would have looked like if the factory had produced it. The car’s restoration is said by the seller to be about seven years old, with the odometer showing less than 1,500 miles.
