ESTATE SALE – 1969 Charger R/T
The car is a Dark Blue Metallic 1969 Dodge Charger R/T two door luxury/sport coupe and is equipped with its original Big Block V-8 driveline. The vehicle’s serial number is #XS29L9B326710 and the car is presently certified and plated. The odometer reading is 64,693 miles. The mileage is believed to be correct however no supporting documentation exists. The following description is provided by an independent classic car appraiser.

VEHICLE CONDITION
The vehicle is a very clean and solid example of the popular Charger R/T two door hardtop which was produced by the Dodge Motor Division of the Chrysler Corporation. The full-sized Charger was first introduced in 1966 and continued to be built until 1978. This car is equipped with the R/T (Road and Track) sport group package which was a combination performance and cosmetic upgrade to the base Chargers. The car is equipped with its original Big Block 440 Magnum V-8 engine and Torque-Flite automatic transmission combination. Broadcast or built sheets exist to verification .
The current owner reports that the original owner was based in Tennessee.
The outer body of the vehicle is made up of factory stamped steel panels which have been stripped and finished in the Deep Blue metallic body colour. The finish is base/clear and is nicely accented with the R/T markings and blue sport interior.
The front left fender is a factory steel panel which is clean and coated in the dark blue body colour. The paint has a clean shine and is free from marks or problems. The front of the fender has the chrome steel bumper unit wrapped around its lower position. The steel inner fender panel. There is a amber-lensed marker built into the front of the fender. The front wheel opening is solid with a factory stainless steel wheel arch moulding trimming its outer edges. The steel inner fender is solid with black enamel sealer applied to its surfaces.
The left side door is a factory steel panel which is clean and coated in the dark blue body finish. The paint is clean with no marks or chips to be seen. The inner door jambs and the door opening itself have been detailed in the blue finish with full rubber seals. The door is solidly mounted into its two hinges. The upper portion of the door has a vent and roll down side window in place. The vent unit is framed with chrome steel and rubber. The base of the two panels has a stainless moulding in place. The rear view mirror is a chromed deluxe unit which is solidly mounted in place. The lower door edge and the rocker beneath it are both clean and finished in the dark blue body colour.
The left quarter panel is a factory stamped steel panel which is straight and finished in the deep blue body colour. The paint has the same clear shine with no marks or chips. The upper front of the panel has a large roll-down pillar window in place. The unit is trimmed with stainless and rubber mouldings. The rear wheel opening is solid and trimmed with a stainless wheel arch moulding. The steel inner fender has been stripped and coated in black enamel sealer. The base of the large “B” roof pillar has the ‘race style” fuel filler cap mounted. This unit is a chromed steel cap which is properly mounted on its hinged filler neck. The rear of the panel has a R/T emblem in place above the red-lensed side marker lamp. This lamp is clean with the rear bumper recessed into the panel at its rear.
The rear of the car is solid and complete. The rear bumper is a narrow chromed steel unit which has been solidly mounted to its steel brackets. The lower valance panel beneath the bumper is body coloured with the rear license plate in its centre. There is a pair of bumperettes located on either side of this plate unit. The two round reverse lamps are also located in this lower panel with chromed bezels trimming their edges. The dual exhaust pipes jut out from beneath the centre of the bumper. The upper rear panel is coated in the body finish with the narrow slotted tail lights at its outer edges. These lampls are clean with silver-red R/T emblem in place. The remainder of the rear portion is made up of the steel trunk lid panel. This lid is clean and coated in the dark blue body colour. The lid easily opens and closes with no play in its two hinges. The outer edges of the trunk opening are detailed in the blue finish with full rubber weather stripping in place. The inner trunk compartment is make of the the steel floor and side panels. These panels are all clean and coated in the dark blue body colour. The floor has a new checked vinyl mat in place. The front of the trunk has the spare tire and jack assemblies properly stowed. There are no signs of moisture or leaks inside the trunk compartment.
The right side of the vehicle is made up of factory stamped steel panels which have been stripped, blocked and finished in the deep blue metallic colour. The paint has a clean shine and is free of marks and chips. The front and rear wheel openings are both trimmed with deluxe stainless wheel arch mouldings. The two steel inner fenders are solid with black enamel sealer applied. The lower rocker portion of the right side is clean and coated in the body finish. The right side door panel is solidly mounted to its two hinges with all new rubber seals and gaskets. The door has a matching chrome steel mirror in place. The upper rear of the front fender panel has the radio aerial in place. This unit is clean and chromed steel and rubber base at its bottom. The other trim pieces and fixtures duplicate those noted on the left side of the vehicle.
The front of the vehicle is solid and complete. The front bumper is a narrow chrome steel unit which has been solidly mounted to its steel brackets. The lower stone shield panel beneath the bumper is body coloured with the front licence plate at its centre. There is a pair of chrome bumperettes on either side of this plate. The front right turn signal lamps are built into the outer edge of this lower panel. The upper portion of the nose has the deluxe sports grill recessed into it. The opening is trimmed with a stainless moulding. The grill itself is a silver and black plastic unit which has the hideaway headlights at its outer edges. These units rotate to reveal the four round headlights. The doors and lamps are working smoothly. The driver’s side headlamp door has a Charger R/T emblem in place. The hood is a factory deluxe sport hood. This is coated in the deep blue finish with minor marks and chips (see picture 1). The two recesses in the centre of the hood have turn indicators integrated into their fronts. The hood is solidly mounted to its two hinges and is easily opened and closed. The upper cowl panel at the rear of the hood is body coloured with slots in its centre. These slots are the inlets for the air ventilation system. The dual wipers are properly mounted in its opening. The outer edges of the opening are trimmed with stainless mouldings. The side and rear window panels are tinted safety plate units which are free from major marks or problems. The roof of the vehicle is the two door hardtop or sport couple roofline. This is finished in the dark blue body colour with chrome Charger scripts emblems trimming their ‘B” pillars. These are stainless drip rails along the roof’s outer edges to prevent water from entering the interior compartment.
The vehicle is equipped with a set of four Firestone Affinity steel belted radial tires. These are all P215/75R15 tires with their black sidewall showing. The tires are mounted on a set of Cragar S/S chrome five spoke wheels. These wheels are clean with chrome caps and lug nuts in their centres. The tires and wheels are clean with no marks or treadwear.
The engine compartment of the vehicle is clean and detailed condition. The steel inner fender and firewall panels are nicely finished in the deep blue colour. There is no oil or dirt residue on any of these panels. The driver’s side inner fender has the controller modules and relays for the fuel injection and electric cooling fans in place. These have been covered with an aluminum cover panel. The car is equipped with an original Chrysler 440 cubic inch Magnum V-8 which was factory rated at 375 horsepower. The motor has been completely rebuilt by Atchison Machine, (London, ON) using a combination of factory and aftermarket performance components. The engine is made up of a cast iron block and cylinder heads which are coated in a black high heat enamel. The top of the motor has a new looking Edelbrock cast aluminum four barrel intake manifold and EZ fuel injection throttle dual-snorkel black air cleaner. The tops of the cylinder heads have chromed steel valve covers in place. The exhaust uses a pair of factory cast iron manifolds which are connected to the full dual mufflers and tailpipes. The ignition has been upgraded with electronic distributor and MSD6A module. This system works in conjunction with the fuel injection for improved performance and fuel efficiency. The cooling and charging systems components are all heavy duty as required by the Big Block V-8 driveline. The radiator has been upgraded with a BeCool aluminum unit including a pair of electric fans in place. The power steering and power brake components are in place and have rebuilt and detailed. The belts, hoses and wires inside the motor compartment are in new condition. The motor is connected to the original Torque Flight 727 automatic transmission. This three speed transmission has been fully rebuilt and upgraded with a kit and convertor. The motor is easily started and runs smoothly upon firing. The combination of the Big Block V-8 power and automatic transmission reliability make the vehicle responsive and fun to drive.
The interior of the vehicle is the blue deluxe sport interior. This consists of high backed front buckets and a single rear bench. These are covered in blue moulded vinyl covers which are in clean condition. The tops of the front seatbacks have adjustable headrests in place. The two door panels are the original blue vinyl units which have bolt-on armrests in their centres. The original chrome steel chranks and handle are in place on these panels. The panels are capped with black moulded trim pieces with some drying and cracking on their surfaces.
The dash is a black moulded vinyl unit which houses the sports instruments and controls in its front face. These include a 150 mph speedometer, 6000 rpm tachometer and engine monitoring gauges. The centre of the dash has the AM push button radio and heater/vents controls in place. The centre console between the front seats houses the floor shifter in its wood grained top. The steering wheel is a Grant GT rosewood sport wheel which has been solidly mounted into its column. The floors of the compartment are covered in newer black loop pile carpeting with full R/T rubber mats in the floor wells. The underside of the roof has a newer blue cloth headliner in place. The compartment is equipped with the courtesy light and deluxe seatbelt packages from the factory.
The underside of the vehicle is made up of the full perimeter steel frame and stamped stell floor and trunk panels. The car was restored on a rotisserie which make access to all of these components much easier. The restoration involved blasting, sealing and refinishing of all the underbody pieces in a black enamel product. The steel and rubber lines and hoses have all been replaced along with the rubber bushings and mounts. The exhaust is a new aluminized dual system which is solidly mounted with a healthy rumble at the idle. The front brakes have been upgraded with Wildwood disc. The rear brakes are the original drum units. These are power assisted and fully rebuilt. The steering is power assisted from the factory. The R/T sport suspension components are all in place and been rebuilt or upgraded. The vehicle is equipped with the new radial-matic shocks on all four corners. The rear suspension also has a pair of aftermarket TracBars installed. The rear carrier is the original 8 ¾ unit which is equipped with 3-series positraction gearing from the factory.
