This 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is a US-market example that was purchased by the seller from California 11 years ago and subsequently imported to Canada where it has remained since. The car is finished in beige over tan leather upholstery and powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes 14″ wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, chrome bumpers, a Pagoda hardtop, a brown soft top, wood trim, a rear jump seat, a Nardi steering wheel, and a Becker Europa AM/FM stereo. The 280SL is now offered with service records, owner’s manuals, a tool kit, and Ontario registration in the seller’s name. The car left the factory finished in Light Beige (181H) and was repainted under previous ownership, and in 2013 rust repairs were performed to the rocker panels, trunk, and wheel wells before refinishing those areas. Equipment includes a body-color Pagoda hardtop, a brown soft top, chrome bumpers and trim, a left-side mirror, and twin polished exhaust outlets. A chip is present in the windshield, and dent repairs were performed in September 2021 on the hood, rear fender, and rear cover. Factory 14” steel wheels wear body-color covers and are fitted with 195/70 Pirelli P4 All-Season tires. A spare wheel is located in the trunk. The car was optioned with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted four-wheel discs. The cabin features low-back bucket seats that have been reupholstered in Cognac leather with color-coordinated door panels, dashboard trim, and carpeting. Appointments include wood trim, a rear kinder seat, three-point seat belts, an analog clock, and a Becker Europa AM/FM radio. A wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and centrally located readouts for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 96k miles. The 2.8-liter M130 inline-six was rated at 168 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque when new. The water pump, alternator belt, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, and exhaust hangers were replaced in April 2020, and service in September 2021 by Automobili in Toronto, Ontario consisted of replacing the battery as well as the fuel hoses and lines. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission that was replaced in 2018. Additional underside photos are provided in the gallery below.
