This 1969 Volkswagen Type 2 was refurbished by the seller following their acquisition in 2019, with work that included a repaint, a refresh of the interior, a front disc brake conversion, and the installation of a dual-port 1.7L flat-four with dual carburetors. A replacement four-speed manual transaxle was also installed, and suspension, electrical, and steering components were replaced. The bus is finished in blue and white over matching upholstery, and it is equipped with a swiveling passenger seat, an L-shape rear bench, a table, and an aftermarket stereo with rear speakers. This Type 2 is offered with a clean California title in the seller’s name. Finished from the factory in Brilliant Blue and Cloud White, the bus received a single-stage repaint following the completion of body work under current ownership. The windshield, side mirrors, body trim, and weatherstripping were replaced at that time. Two-tone steel wheels wear bright hubcaps and are mounted with Hankook tires. The brake system was overhauled and front disc brakes were added using an Empi Wide-5 kit during the refurbishment. The seller states that a rebuilt steering box was also installed, along with a replacement drag link, tie rod ends, ball joints, Gabriel shocks, and a Boge steering damper. The front cabin features bucket seats trimmed in two-tone blue and white vinyl upholstery, and the passenger seat has been fitted with a custom 360-degree rotating swivel base. Aftermarket sound deadening was added to the interior, and a replacement floor mat, custom door panels, three-point seat belts, and a replacement glove box, steering wheel, and Empi trigger shifter were installed. An Alpine stereo with Bluetooth and USB inputs is wired to speakers in the door panels and rear seat bases. VDO instrumentation includes a 90-mph speedometer and a fuel level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 45k miles, approximately 50 of which were added by the seller. True mileage is unknown. A custom-fabricated L-shaped rear bench was installed by the seller, comprised of wood-style Formica bases with removable cushions trimmed to match the front seats. A removable wooden table and lap belts with Wolfsburg crest buckles have also been installed. The air-cooled dual-port 1.7L flat-four features dual Solex 40mm carburetors, a doghouse oil cooler, and an Engle camshaft. The engine and dual port cylinder heads were rebuilt prior to installation, which the seller states included the installation of a replacement 69mm crankshaft, 5.4″ CB Performance connecting rods, and an Engle W90 camshaft, along with 88mm pistons and cylinders, a 200mm clutch, an alternator conversion kit, and a replacement oil pump, pushrod tubes, and gaskets. Pertornix electronic ignition, an aluminum degree pulley, and an Empi exhaust system have been added, and a replacement wiring harness was also installed. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle, which was reportedly sourced from a 1971 Type 2 and resealed by the seller. The CV joints, boots, and bearings are also said to have been replaced. Photos from the engine rebuild are provided in the gallery.
