This 1970 BMW 1600 cabriolet was produced in September 1970 and was first delivered to Zeiss & Schwarzel in Mannheim, Germany, before being imported to the US in 2003 and later purchased by the seller in 2011. It is finished in blue metallic over black vinyl upholstery and is powered by a rebuilt 1.6-liter inline-four linked with a replacement five-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top, a convertible top boot, power-assisted front disc brakes, 13″ steel wheels with hubcaps, a MOMO steering wheel, and a heater. This 1600 cabriolet is now offered with service records and a clean Washington title in the seller’s name that lists the car as a 1971 model. The car was finished from the factory in Chamonix (085) and was resprayed in the current shade of blue in the early 2000s. Features include a replacement retractable black soft top as well as a convertible top boot, dual side mirrors, and bright bumpers and trim. The front end was replaced previously, and a discoloring below the gas cap as well as rust and bubbling paint are highlighted in photos provided below. Steel 13″ wheels feature BMW-branded hubcaps and are mounted with mixed 185/70 tires. Braking is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. The wheels show wear. The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black vinyl that extends to the door panels. The driver-seat bottom padding and upholstery were previously replaced. The glovebox lock, vent slider, and seat-belt retractors do not work, the heater slider is not fully adjustable, the driver-seat upholstery and left door panel are torn, and the dashboard and dome light are cracked. The aftermarket MOMO three-spoke steering wheel frames a 180-km/h speedometer, auxiliary gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature, and an analog clock that does not keep accurate time. The five-digit odometer was inoperative before being recently repaired, and it now shows 28k kilometers (~17k miles). Total mileage is unknown. The 1.6-liter M10 inline-four was factory equipped with a Solex carburetor and was rebuilt in 2015. It was factory rated at 85 horsepower and 97 lb-ft of torque. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission, which was installed in place of the factory-installed four-speed unit in 2003. Corrosion on underside surfaces is shown in photos provided below.
