With a production total of only 1,613, the 1971 Ford Torino GT Convertible was by far the lowest-production model of the Torino lineup for that production year. This Texas-based example, in Midnight Blue, has a 302 engine, an automatic transmission, and a functional power top, according to the seller. Recent service has reportedly included a new radiator, thermostat, intake manifold gasket, power steering pump, A/C condenser, and more. There’s also a modern, Bluetooth-capable radio. “It rumbles with a dual exhaust,” says the seller, who adds it is a “rare and fun car to drive.”

The “F” in this Torino’s VIN indicates a factory 302-cu.in. OHV V8 engine and that’s what’s under the hood, according to the seller. “It appears to be the original engine,” says the seller, who also notes the two-barrel-carbureted 302 “starts right up.” There’s no reported smoke and replacement of an intake manifold gasket has reportedly taken care of the engine’s known leaks. The engine is matched with a C4 three-speed automatic transmission that is said to perform well. Additional recent service includes a cooling system overhaul, with a replacement radiator and thermostat, says the seller.

According to the seller, Midnight Blue paintwork on this Torino is in “pretty good shape,” and he rates it a “7 out of 10.” The age of the paint job, however, is unknown and the seller says the previous owner reported that fiberglass was used to repair rust behind both rear wheels. “The repair appears clean and not noticeable,” notes the seller. As for exterior blemishes, a small dent is noted in the body-side molding at the rear of the car. Additionally, the convertible top is reportedly in good condition and operates normally. A top boot is included. The car’s glass is also said to be in good condition, with a small nick on the windshield the only noted blemish. There are no known issues with the seals and all the exterior lighting is reported functional. The taillights have been upgraded to LEDs.

Inside, the black vinyl, bench-seat interior appears clean and in very good condition, with no reported holes, tears, or excessive wear in the seat covers or carpet. The door panels, dash pad, and steering wheel also appear to show well, with a couple of minor cracks apparent on the steering wheel’s horn pads. The seller notes the knob on the driver’s-door window crank is missing, but the rest of the interior is believed to be intact and in good condition. All the gauges are said to work normally, along with the heater. The car is also equipped with a factory-style air conditioning system that is functional and was recharged this summer. Additionally, the audio system has been upgraded with a retro-style radio with modern capabilities, including Bluetooth.

According to the seller, the chassis, suspension, and brakes are in good condition, with no known issues or needs. The car has power steering and manual drum brakes. Recent service includes a replacement of the power steering pump and hoses, along with a front suspension rebuild within the past six months, says the seller, which included all the bushings. The car comes with two sets of wheels and tires. It wears a set of Scott Drake Magnum 500-style reproduction wheels wrapped with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, while the second set is the original steel wheels with covers and trim rings. The 235/70R16 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires the car wears are said to be in good shape, with DOT date codes showing 2019 as the year of manufacture. The tires on the original wheels are said to be unusable and should not be installed for driving.

The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Texas title in his name. Few 1971 Ford Torino GT Convertibles were produced, and this example appears straight, with recent service intended to improve its drivability. “It’s a rare and fun car to drive,” reminds the seller.
