With its pair of smaller “bumperettes” on the nose, this Canada-based, earlier-built 1972 De Tomaso Pantera — in Yellow over black leather — is easily identified as one of the “pre-L” models. The later “L” cars (for Lusso) were introduced halfway through 1972 and were distinguished by a large, single front bumper to suit U.S. regulations. According to the seller, this car has been completely restored and is powered by its Ford 351 Cleveland V8 and five-speed manual transaxle. “It runs perfectly and is in mint condition,” notes the seller. It is also one of only 2,061 produced for the year.

  • A Ford 351-cu.in. “Cleveland” OHV V8 sits behind the driver and passenger.
  • For the Pantera, the four-barrel-fed with a stronger engine block with four-bolt main caps.
  • It also featured a more aggressive camshaft profile and a dual-point distributor.
  • The engine is backed by ZF-sourced five-speed transaxle.
  • The seller reports the original engine and transmission have been rebuilt.
  • Additionally, the exterior has been restored and repainted the factory yellow.
  • The finish appears in very good condition and the seller reports no blemishes or body damage.
  • All the exterior trim appears correct and also in very good condition.
  • Similarly, the black leather interior shows well and appears in stock trim.
  • The steering wheel appears to be an aftermarket Lecarra model.
  • This car is a “radio delete” model with a factory block-off plate on the console.
  • Instrumentation includes a 200-mph speedometer.
  • Per the photos, the chassis and suspension elements appear very clean.
  • The car wears correct 15-inch Campagnolo “two slot” magnesium wheels.
  • BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires are mounted on the rims.
  • Nothing additional is included.
  • There are no reported needs for this Pantera.
  • This “pre-L” Pantera is one of 2,061 produced for the 1972 model year.
  • It has been restored and is said to be driven by its original powertrain.
  • That includes a Ford 351C V8 engine linked to a ZF five-speed transaxle.
  • During the car’s restoration it was repainted the factory yellow.
  • The cockpit is trimmed in black leather and has an aftermarket steering wheel.

The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on the proper Quebec, Canada document in his name for transfer of ownership. Said to be in “mint condition,” this restored 1972 De Tomaso Pantera appears in very good shape, with a rebuilt original powertrain and no reported issues. “It runs perfectly,” adds the seller.
