There’s a bit of drag racing royalty linked with this 1973 Dodge Challenger Restomod. It was built by Barnes Daniels, who was a Chrysler engineer and one of the original Ramchargers team members. It is offered by his son, who owns (and helped build) the classic and performance-enhanced E-body. Under the hood is a 440 V8 engine that’s backed by a TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission. The entire car has reportedly been restored, including professional bodywork and paint. “The car runs, handles, and drives great,” says the seller, who adds there are approximately 1,000 miles on the Challenger’s restoration.

  • The 440-cu.in. OHV V8 is not original to the car, which left the factory with a 318.
  • The 440 features a 9.5:1 compression ratio and a “mild” Lunati Voodoo camshaft.
  • It also has iron heads and an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold.
  • Atop the intake is an Edelbrock AVS2 800-cfm carburetor that’s fed with an electric fuel pump.
  • There’s a high-flow water pump, high-volume oil pump, and a Summit electronic ignition system.
  • Steel headers feed a stainless-steel exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers.
  • A heavy-duty Modine radiator helps keep the engine cool.
  • Per the seller, the engine is rated at 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque.
  • It’s paired with a 727 TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission with a shift kit.
  • The rebuilt rear axle features a 3.23-geared limited-slip differential.
  • The axle seals are recent.
  • The seller asserts the restored body has “zero rust.”
  • Fiberglass front fenders were added during the restoration.
  • Steel replacements for the hood and trunk lid were also installed, along with new bumpers.
  • A T/A-style rear spoiler was added.
  • The interior floor and trunk were restored and coated with POR 15.
  • Professionally painted Sublime, the finish is said to be “excellent.”
  • The interior was also restored and shows virtually no signs of wear in the carpet or upholstery.
  • Stock-style bucket seats are trimmed in black vinyl with gray cloth inserts.
  • A replacement Rallye gauge cluster was installed.
  • The odometer does not reflect the car’s true mileage, buit the original odometer is included.
  • 3M carbon fiber-look inlays were installed on the dashboard, console, and door panels.
  • An AutoMeter tachometer and oil pressure gauge were added.
  • The heater box was rebuilt and the heater core was replaced.
  • The steering column was restored with new harnesses and a Flaming River zero-backlash coupling.
  • According to the seller, the car has also been completed rewired.
  • A reportedly “full” suspension rebuild was completed, including new QA1 control arms and more.
  • Hotchkis Sport HD 1.1 OD torsion bars were installed along with new rear springs and KYB shocks.
  • Poly bushings were also installed.
  • The front disc/rear drum brake system was rebuilt.
  • The car wears 18×8-inch (front) and 20×10-inch (rear) Foose Nitrous chrome wheels.
  • They’re paired with 245/40R18 (front) and 285/30R20 (rear) Nitto NT555 tires.
  • The car comes with an extra TA-style fiberglass hood, light hood springs, and hood pins.
  • Two totes of additional new and used parts are also included, along with a number of receipts.
  • Additional parts are available with the car at an additional charge (see Public Documents).
  • The clock and factory tachometer do not work.
  • The console’s ash tray is missing.
  • A few cosmetic blemishes including cracks are noted on the driver’s door panel and console.
  • The emergency brake cable is not installed, but a new stainless steel cable is included.
  • A small paint chip is noted behind the right-rear wheel opening.
  • This classic Dodge Challenger was built by engineer and Ramchargers member Barnes Daniels.
  • It’s powered by a performance-built 440 engine, which is backed by an automatic transmission.
  • The professionally refinished exterior features fiberglass front fenders and Sublime paintwork.
  • The interior was also restored and features custom-trimmed bucket seats and additional upgrades.
  • The suspension system features performance upgrades and Foose chrome wheels.

The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean North Carolina title in his name. Constructed by an original Ramchargers team member and offered by his son, who’s also been in the Mopar scene for more than 50 years (and helped with this build), this 1973 Dodge Challenger Restomod is said to “run and drive great, with a satisfying grumble from its 440 V8 engine.”
