1976 Triumph Tr6

This 1976 Triumph TR6 spent decades in California before the body was removed from the frame during a rotisserie refurbishment that was conducted in New York under prior ownership from June 2016 through September 2022. The seller acquired the vehicle in late 2022, and in 2023 the car earned a Concours d’Elegance first-place award at the Vintage Triumph Register national convention in the TR6 Late category. Powered by a 2.5-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, the car is finished in white over a black interior. Equipment includes a body-color removable hardtop, a black convertible top, 15″ steel wheels, red-line tires, Koni front shocks, a stainless-steel exhaust system, a luggage rack, an AM radio, and a heater. This TR6 is now offered with a reproduction window sticker, an owner’s manual, refurbishment photos and records, spare parts, a spare trunk lid, a car cover, and a clean Virginia title in the seller’s name. Finished from the factory in New White (19), the car was stripped and repainted during the aforementioned refurbishment, and the chrome pieces were refinished. Features include a body-color removable hardtop, a replacement black convertible top, a top boot, a luggage rack, rubber bumper overriders, a plastic air dam, Union Jack decals, a replacement windshield, and dual side mirrors. A spare trunk lid without a luggage rack was painted to match the car during the refurbishment and is included in the sale. Silver 15″ steel wheels feature polished trim rings and are mounted with 185-R15 Coker Classic red-line tires. Stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes, and Koni front shocks have been installed. The interior color was changed from chestnut to black during the refurbishment. The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black vinyl, and interior appointments include English walnut dashboard trim, wool carpeting, a British Leyland AM radio, three-point seatbelts, a locking glovebox, a heater, and black rubber floor mats. The three-spoke steering wheel fronts a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer, while gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, voltage, and fuel level are mounted in the center of the dashboard. The instrumentation was refurbished by Nisonger Instruments, and the steering column has been rebuilt. The five-digit odometer shows just under 100 miles, which is said to reflect the distance accumulated since completion of the build. True mileage is unknown. The 2.5-liter inline-six is said to have been bored .020″ over and rebuilt during the refurbishment. Fuel is supplied by dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, the wiring harness has been replaced, the radiator was cleaned and refurbished, and a 304 stainless-steel exhaust system is installed. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with a J-type overdrive, the latter of which was adapted during the refurbishment. The U-joint assembly has been reinforced. Additional photos and video footage of the underside are provided in the galleries below. Hundreds of refurbishment photos will accompany the vehicle, as will receipts and other materials. The seller states that many replacement parts used in the refurbishment were removed from unopened British Leyland or Lucas packages from the 1970s, such as the battery, convertible top, headlights, windshield, marker lights, taillight assemblies, mirrors, luggage rack, hardtop headliner, wheel trim rings, seat covers, seatbelts, and the steering wheel. The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate details factory colors and identification numbers and shows a manufacture date of January 22, 1976. This car received the TR6 Late category first-place award from the Concours d’Elegance at the Vintage Triumph Register’s 2023 national convention.
