This 1997 Ford Mustang convertible is one of 40 Saleen S351 examples produced for the model year and is powered by a supercharged 5.8-liter V8 mated to a six-speed manual transmission and a Torsen differential with optional 3.55:1 gearing. Finished in Crystal White over gray leather upholstery, the car is equipped with a Speedster tonneau cover, a white soft top, Saleen-specific bodywork and graphics, and 18″ Saleen/Speedline five-spoke magnesium wheels in addition to Racecraft suspension components, Saleen-branded Recaro front seats, air conditioning, a roll bar, and an Eclipse AM/FM/CD stereo. The car was sold new to Knox Ford in Muldraugh, Kentucky, and remained registered in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts before being acquired by the seller in May 2023. This Saleen Mustang S351 shows 15k miles and is now offered with a Saleen window sticker, Saleen correspondence, period publications, manufacturer’s literature, two sets of Saleen-branded floor mats, an accident-free Carfax report, and a clean Massachusetts title in the seller’s name. The car is finished in Crystal White and features a color-coordinated convertible top as well as Saleen-specific graphics and badging. The Speedster option added a unique body-color Speedster tonneau cover, and additional exterior details include a revised hood, side skirts, taillights, and a rear wing. A “Saleen” banner spans the windshield, and a #42 decal on the model-specific front bumper cover corresponds with the car’s serialized production number. White 18″ Saleen/Speedline five-spoke magnesium wheels are mounted with 265/35 front and 295/35 rear Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires showing 2017 date codes. The Racecraft suspension features progressive-rate springs, N2 front struts, quad N2 rear shocks, a front sway bar, and urethane sway bar pivot bushings in addition to a Saleen G-Load brace. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with Saleen-branded four-piston calipers fitted over slotted rotors up front. The cabin features Saleen-branded Recaro front bucket seats with louvered headrests that are trimmed in gray leather, and they are accompanied by a matching rear bench in addition to a two-tone dashboard. Equipment includes a roll bar with an integrated brake light as well as air conditioning, cruise control, an Eclipse AM/FM/CD stereo, and power windows, locks, and mirrors. Steve Saleen’s signature can be seen on the passenger side of the dashboard, the underside of the trunk lid, and along the firewall. A Saleen S351 Mustang plaque on the center console identifies this example as #97-0042 in the series. The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Saleen-branded instrumentation including a 200-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, battery voltage, and oil pressure. Additional readouts housed in a pod atop the dashboard monitor boost pressure and fuel pressure. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 15k miles, approximately 200 of which have been added under current ownership. The 5.8-liter V8 was fitted with a Vortech centrifugal supercharger as part of the S351 conversion, and Saleen rated the engine at 510 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. Additional Saleen modifications included forged pistons, aluminum cylinder heads, and a hydraulic roller camshaft and lifters in addition to roller rockers, a 65mm throttle body, 36 lb/hr fuel injectors, and ceramic-coated headers. An oil change was completed in May 2023. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a Torsen differential with optional 3.55:1 gears. Borla exhaust mufflers are installed. The window sticker shows initial delivery to Knox Ford of Muldraugh, Kentucky, as well as factory colors, options, and a Saleen MSRP of $66,091. Saleen correspondence, period publications, manufacturer’s literature, and two sets of Saleen-branded floor mats are included in the sale. The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. An open manufacturer’s safety recall associated with the parking brake control assembly is listed in a December 2000 entry. A duplicate title was issued in November 2006.
