This 2001 BMW was delivered as a Titanium Silver Metallic 525i Sport Wagon with an automatic transmission, and following the seller’s acquisition in 2020 it was modified with components sourced from a 2003 M5. The 4.9-liter V8, six-speed manual transmission, and limited-slip differential were installed along with the heated and power-adjustable front sport seats, instruments, trim, mirrors, and bumper covers. The car was repainted, the 18″ Style 65 wheels were reconditioned, stainless-steel brake hoses and KW Variant 1 coilover suspension was installed, and a custom valved exhaust system was fabricated. It is also equipped with a sunroof, xenon headlights, fog lights, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an AM/FM/CD stereo with navigation. This M5-style E39 Sport Wagon is now offered with records and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name. The car was finished from the factory in Titanium Silver Metallic, and following the seller’s purchase M5-style bumper covers and mirrors were installed, and the front end, sides, and hatch were repainted and black trim was installed. Work was performed on the wiring for the self-leveling xenon headlights in 2022, at which time the front fender liners were replaced, and the car is also equipped with a sunroof, fog lights, and tinted windows. The seller states that the windshield, roof antenna, headlights, and cowl trim were also replaced during their ownership. The Carfax report lists a damage report in September 2011, with no further information disclosed. The 18″ Style 65 wheels were reconditioned in 2021, and they are mounted with Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 that measure 245/40 up front and 275/35 out back and have 2020 and 2021 production date codes. A full-sized matching wheel is stored under the cargo area floor. The front subframe was carried over from the donor M5 along with the brakes and front and rear sway bars. The suspension has been modified with KW Variant 1 coilovers and Ground Control front camber plates, and the front lower control arms were replaced in 2021. Stainless-steel brake hoses were also installed and the power steering lines and reservoir were replaced. The heated and power-adjustable sport seats from the M5 were installed along with the matching rear bench, center arm rest, and door panels, and the headliner was recovered in sueded material and M5-specification Alcantara trim was installed on the pillars. M5-logo door sill trim and floor mats were also installed along with the steering wheel, shift knob, sun visors, and dashboard trim bezel, and used burl walnut trim was sourced. The window shade on the right-rear door was repaired in 2022, at which time the rear window shade anchors were replaced along with the mirror module and master window switch on the left-front door. The seller states that the M5-specification rear view mirror was repaired by Radar Mirror, and additional amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, a replacement Dynavin N7 infotainment with navigation, and a cargo area divider. The leather-wrapped steering wheel was sourced from the M5 along with the M-branded 185-mph speedometer, tachometer with a variable redline, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil temperature, and fuel level. The cluster was removed and wiring was repaired in 2021, and it has been coded to the mileage of the removed cluster. The digital odometer indicates 179k miles, approximately 3,200 of which were added under current ownership. The 4.9-liter S62 V8 was sourced from a 2003 M5 according to the seller, and it is equipped with individual throttle bodies and double-VANOS continuously variable valve timing. The serpentine belts, coolant tank hose, and one intake hose were replaced during the swap, and the leak detection pump was replaced in 2022. An oil change was completed in June 2023, and results of a Blackstone Laboratories oil analysis report performed at that time are provided in the gallery. The seller states the starter is occasionally noisy. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential sourced from the M5. A custom valved exhaust system with MagnaFlow mufflers was fabricated and is controlled via a fob on the key chain, and the under-engine splash shield was replaced. Photos showing the car before and during the conversion are presented in the gallery below along with included service records.
