World r II Script GPW JEEP ( ) 1942
le matching on engine block, frame and glove compartment data plate . many are aware, most WW2 jeeps out there are not matching. nes were separated from frames and tubs as the war went on
and also during post war restoration . With this jeep, the 3 major components remained together.
I think I could not give a better description of the jeep than this.
It is a quote from one of the TOP contributors to G503.com about this specific jeep when it originally came up for sale years ago :
“Let me tell you a little about this jeep as I have seen and admired it for eight years… If you want a jeep that LITERALL looks like it crawled out of a WWII French barn, THIS IS IT.
Fantastic patina to the (restored) finish. Extremely high percentage of original parts (the original owner would buy entire GPWs to get the small parts he needed). It was restored back when there was no reproduction parts to speak of.
It takes EARS for a restored jeep to develop this kind of “character”, that special look that is every bit of what I imagine a REAL combat WWII jeep would have. Not to belittle factory-class restorations, but if you want a jeep that looks like 1942 battlefield and not assembly line, THIS IS THE ONE.”
( a copy of this post is in the photos )
he mentioned, this jeep is not frame off mint, should you want that I am sure there are some available. I would list it as a very good original WW2 GPW jeep made in PA and dated JUL 24 1942 on its data plate. This jeep is an original 6 volt ( yes I know it doesn’t crank as strong as one modifed to 12 volt ). The engine and transmission are strong. This jeep shows nice patina and yes it has rust holes under jeep in the hat channels and below gas tank sump ( in photos) but there is no active rust now. I personally desired a GPW jeep that had ‘ the look’ and also being a FORD. HENR FORD was almost fanatical in stamping all of his parts and I wanted a jeep to have almost all these original F marked parts. ( WILL S did not stamp their parts ). *Please see last photo collage of just some of the F marked parts*. course it has small dings , dents and repairs but that always seemed to me to keep with its originality . I do suspect the original FORD SCRIPT on rear was damaged ( this is common ) so I think a logo was salvaged from one of the original tubs . This jeep definitely falls within the dates when FORD SCRIPT tubs were made so it is correct for this tub. I actually purchased this jeep after speaking with this G503 member. He has a lot of experience with many military vehicles. I’m 70 years old now and I think it’s time to turn it over to another collector who will love it as much as I did.
