This 1972 Volkswagen Type 2 Westfalia was delivered new in Hanover, Germany, and reportedly spent time in Sweden before being imported to the US in 1973. The seller acquired the bus in 2005, and subsequent work is said to have included overhauls of the 2.0-liter flat-four, four-speed manual transaxle, suspension, brakes, and interior. Finished in white over beige and tan vinyl upholstery, the bus is equipped with a pop-top sleeper tent, an awning, a bike rack, a roof-mounted solar panel, a sink, a refrigerator, a stowable table, a convertible bed, and an Alpine stereo. This Westfalia bus is offered with manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a clean Washington state title in the seller’s name. The bus is finished in white with matching bumpers and is equipped with a rear-hinged Westfalia pop-top tent that is mounted with a roof rack. Additional exterior features include a front-mounted spare tire, a Fiamma awning and bike rack, and a 100-watt roof-mounted solar panel linked to a 2,500-watt Cobra inverter. The pop-top canvas and exterior seals were reportedly replaced by the seller. Steel 14″ wheels feature replacement covers and beauty rings and wear 27×8.5″ General Grabber A/TX tires that were installed in 2021, according to the seller. Additional work performed under current ownership is said to have included rebuilding the steering box, overhauling the brake system, and replacement of the CV joints, wheel bearings, shocks, and steering ball joints. A list of maintenance carried out during current ownership is provided in the gallery. The interior features bucket seats up front, which were re-padded and recovered in beige vinyl during current ownership. Replacement gray carpets were also installed, and an Alpine stereo is mounted in the glovebox and linked to Alpine amplifiers, kick panel-mounted Focal two-way speakers, rear-mounted M&K three-way speakers, and an 8″ JL Audio subwoofer that is mounted in the passenger’s seat pedestal. The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a 90-mph speedometer, a fuel level gauge, and an aftermarket tachometer. The five-digit odometer shows 50k miles, 22k of which were added under current ownership. The rear cabin features tan vinyl upholstery with replacement birch wood panels. Equipment includes a sink, a refrigerator, a stowable table, a convertible bed, window curtains, and storage cubbies. The air-cooled 2.0-liter flat-four was overhauled in 2009 by Wolfsburg Motorwerks in Ballard, Washington. Upgrades include dual Weber carburetors, an electronic ignition system, a high-output alternator, and a 12″ cooling fan. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission that was reportedly overhauled in 2010. Additional work performed at that time is said to have included replacement of the clutch. Manufacturer’s literature and service records are included in the sale. Filed under: vw
