This 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230SL is a European-market example that was acquired by the seller’s parents in 1981 and spent time in New Mexico and in Hawaii from 2005 to 2007 before returning to New Mexico. Work carried out in 2000 involved refinishing the car in Light Ivory, reupholstering the interior in green, and installing a replacement 2.3-liter inline-six. Equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, a body-color Pagoda hardtop, a beige soft top, chrome bumpers, a Nardi steering wheel, lap belts, and a Bluetooth-capable Alpine stereo linked to aftermarket speakers. This 230SL is offered by the seller on behalf of their parents with manufacturer’s literature, the removed steering wheel, and a clean New Mexico title. Finished from the factory in Dark Green (268), the car was reportedly repainted in Light Ivory circa 2000. Equipment includes a body-color Pagoda hardtop, a beige soft top, a chrome driver-side mirror, US-market headlights, and chrome bumpers. Rust repairs were performed on the right front bumper support and floor pans under current ownership, and rust is still present in these areas as well as the rear edge of the hardtop. Photos of flaking paint around the body and on the hardtop are included in the gallery, and wear is visible on the soft top. The images in the photo gallery were captured in January 2023. Black 14″ steel wheels wear covers with body-color centers, and the spare and jack are stowed in the trunk. Braking is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. The cabin is trimmed in green and the seats have been reupholstered in leather. A Nardi steering wheel and Alpine Bluetooth CD player are installed, and aftermarket speakers are mounted in the front kick panels and in a box behind the seats. There is wear on the wood trim and on the driver’s seat, trim is missing from the interior of the hardtop, and the heater has been removed. Instrumentation includes a 220-km/h speedometer, a tachometer, and vertically oriented auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 7k kilometers (~4k miles), and an estimated 50k kilometers (~31k miles) were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The fuel-injected 2.3L M127 inline-six is a replacement that is said to have been installed in 2000. The oil was most recently changed in August 2022, and the alternator brushes were replaced in preparation for the sale. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Rust is visible on underbody components and in the right-front wheel well. Filed under: pagoda, sl, w113
