This 1973 BMW 2002 Cabriolet is one of 2,317 examples built between 1971 and 1975. The car was manufactured on March 28, 1973 and delivered to its first owner in Eschweiler, Germany on April 6, 1973. It remained in Germany until 1991, when it was exported to Holland by the previous owner. A refurbishment commisioned in 2009 included a repaint in the original color, a refreshed interior, an overhaul of the 2.0L inline-four, and the installation of a 5-speed manual transmission from an E21. The seller, BaT regular Alex_V, purchased the car in 2018 and has since serviced it with a carburetor rebuild, valve adjustment, and the replacement of the spark plugs, distributor, points, coil, and fluids. The car is now being offered with a BMW Classic Certificate, a reproduction owner’s manual, original brochure, service records, and a clean Greek title in the seller’s name. The car was repainted in its original color of Fjord Blue in 2009. The paint is shown from several angles and in different levels of lighting in gallery photographs below. The black cabriolet roof consists of a Targa-style removable top over the front seats, and a folding soft top rear section with a plastic window. 13″ steel wheels wear center caps with BMW roundels and chrome trim rings. The wheels are shod in Vredestein T-Trac and Firestone F-590 tires. The interior was refurbished by the previous owner with new black leather upholstery and grey carpets. The air vent controls and other items are labeled in German, and a Phillips AM/FM radio resides in the center console. The leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation including an 8k-rpm tachometer and a 180-km/h speedometer. The five-digit odometer indicates 14k kilometers, and is beloved to have rolled over once. The seller has added around 1k miles during his one year of ownership. The 2.0L M10 inline-four was reportedly overhauled by the previous owner approximately 6k kilometers ago in 2009. Around 500 kilometers ago the factory Solex carburetor was rebuilt by the seller, and the car was serviced with replacement spark plugs, a distributor, points, coil, and fluids. In addition, the valves were adjusted and a new valve cover gasket was installed. The original 4-speed transmission was replaced by a “short” 5-speed unit from a late model E21 3-Series. The short gearbox carries the code 240.0.0266.90. Included in the sale are a BMW Classic Certificate issued in 2018, a reproduction owner’s manual, original brochure, titles from previous owners, and service records, along with refurbishment photos, a spare, jack, and tool kit. For this auction, the seller is offering to ship the car from his shop in Greece to the nearest US port or European city of the winning bidder free of charge.
